John C. Reilly Confirmed For Role In 'Guardians Of The Galaxy,' Joe Cornish Reportedly Shortlisted For 'Star Trek 3' & More

“Guardians of the Galaxy” is over a year away from its planned release date and filming is set to get underway very soon. So far, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond and Lee Pace are all planned to appear in the Marvel film, but it’s this latest piece of casting information that has really perked our interest. Marvel has apparently made an offer for John C. Reilly to play the part of Rhomann Dey, a character that has been described as being the Agent Coulson of the 'Guardians' world. His character would be serving as the “go-between,” keeping the Guardians in line while reporting their activities back to S.H.I.E.L.D.

What do you do if you're the director of a cult movie that puts your name on the tongues of Hollywood executive types? If you're Joe Cornish, you wisely take a step back to consider your options. While the director behind "Attack The Block" likely had a lot of doors suddenly made available to him last year, he's been cautious. Along with Edgar Wright, he wrote "Ant-Man" for Marvel and "The Adventures Of Tintin" for Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg, and was noted for the movies he didn't do such as "A Good Day To Die Hard" (which he turned down) and "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" (which he was shortlisted for). But now he's picked something, and lest you think he's not ready to make a big leap, guess again.

...and then there was one. The hunt for the director to take the helm of "Catching Fire" looks to be nearing an end. Just a couple days after we reported that Francis Lawrence and Bennett Miller were in the hunt for the job, it now looks like Lionsgate has decided on their man.

'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' & 'Drive' Lead London Film Critics Nominations

The London Film Critics' Circle has released their nominees this morning, with some surprising frontrunners. Tomas Alfredson's Cold War thriller "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" and Nicolas Winding Refn's pulpy blast "Drive" were the top nominees, with six nominations apiece, while Lynne Ramsay's chilling "We Need to Talk About Kevin" and Asghar Farhadi's emotionally devastating "A Separation" each picked up five nominations. Steve McQueen's sex addiction drama "Shame" and indie black-and-white silent thingee "The Artist" each secured four nominations. Sadly "Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star," was, again, overlooked.

And More From The Director On The Alien Invasion Film From the moment the lights dimmed in the Alamo Drafthouse where we first saw Joe Cornish's comedic sci-fi thriller "Attack the Block" at this year's SXSW film festival, we were hooked. Since then, we've watched as the film has gone through wild ups-and-downs: first the rapturous response in Austin (where it ended up taking home an Audience Award), to its acquisition by Sony's Screen Gems division, to the somewhat limited theatrical release it got this summer. It felt very much like those that saw "Attack the Block" absolutely adored it… it's just that not many people saw it.

Across his 40 year career as Hollywood's most beloved filmmaker, Steven Spielberg has tried his hand at many different things -- the blockbuster thrill ride, the family film, the comedy, the war film, hardcore science-fiction, serious dramas and whatever it was that "The Terminal" was, a diverse range of pictures united by that certain Spielberg je-ne-sais-quoi. But there's something he's never tackled directly himself; the animated film. Sure, he's produced TV cartoons like "Animaniacs," and even the occasional big-screen one, like "An American Tail" and "We're Back," but for the most part, the Bearded One has always preferred live action to ink and pixels.

Joe Cornish's directorial debut "Attack the Block" has now been in U.S. theaters for about 10 days, having been rolling out in its native U.K. and elsewhere since May. We're sure you're fed up of the hype at this point, but it's a very, very good film: a nifty, witty, extremely well-executed little genre picture. It's also one that, like the best genre movies, has a socio-political backbone to it that in the last few days has suddenly struck a vein that few were expecting with the explosion of violence and looting that's taken place in London since Saturday night.
