The lament of the last fifteen years or so of Robert De Niro's career is a common one; the actor for the most part having traded in the challenging performances he made his name on in the 1970s and 1980s for a series of lukewarm comedies and pot-boiler thrillers. His last truly great performance was in "Jackie Brown" in 1997 and, while he does occasionally do good work -- last year's "Stone" was his best for ages -- audiences don't seem to care when he does. But the actor doesn't exactly help his own cause.

It's been a long, messy road for the developing, and highly anticipated Bob Marley documentary "Marley" to see the light of day. Martin Scorsese was originally working on the documentary for the Weinstein Company way back in 2008, although he swiftly bowed out, and was then replaced by Jonathan Demme. The project then came to a standstill when Demme left the project after he and producer Steve Bing didn't see eye to eye on the film during the first rounds of editing, although, Demme did tell us he was proud of the work he had done on the film.

While it's been a couple years now since Jonathan Demme's last film, "Rachel Getting Married," the director has been busy with a handful of projects, though a number of them seem to have stalled out in various stages of development. While he's directed two episodes of the forthcoming HBO show "Enlightened," he's got a completed Bob Marley documentary sitting on the shelf, was set to make a music-drive documentary in Haiti with Arcade Fire before the massive earthquake struck the nation last year, has lined up an HBO show based on Walter Mosely's "The Long Fall," and was attached to helm the drama "Honeymoon With Harry" last fall with Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro to star, though movement on that project seems to have cooled. So what's next?
