The World's End
It seems that if you want some vision of the world coming an end, you have more than a few options at the movies this year; on Wednesday "This Is The End" comes to theaters, and numerous sci-fi blockbusters this summer ("Oblivion," "After Earth") have already tackled apocalyptic visions of Earth forever changed and humanity forced to leave. Some extra posters for a couple of the other flavors of big and scary end-times are here, continuing cinema's determination to make 2013 the year it all ended.

Versatile Danish thesp Mads Mikkelsen is set to team with "Man On A Ledge" helmer Asger Leth for road film "Move On." Developed by Matt Greenhalgh (screenwriter of "Control" and "Nowhere Boy"), the story begins with a flawed hero, stepping off a boat in Rotterdam before traveling across Europe to deliver a mysterious silver suitcase. Lensing will take the production across eight different countries in a hectic 30-day chronological shoot, and will unusually involve the participation of film fans from 11 countries in areas such as casting, location and props. More details can be found at the film's website, but each country's shoot will make up a 5-8 minute segment of the movie, with a shoot commencing this summer before a September unveiling. At the grand old age of 72, nearly fifty years after his first screen appearance, John Hurt is seemingly busier than ever. The actor has no fewer than eleven credits from 2011, ranging from his snarling supporting turn in "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" and high-class work in "Melancholia" to short films and cameos in blockbusters like 'Harry Potter' and "Immortals." The actor has always pursued work with a diverse range of directors, and shows no sign of stopping there as he's just signed up for the latest film for one of the most acclaimed names in international cinema in the last few years.

Somewhat underrated at the time, it's sad that it took the death of Sidney Lumet last year to cause his final film, "Before The Devil Knows You're Dead," to be re-appreciated. A seedy little Greek tragedy of a crime movie, with impeccable performances across the board, and shot like it was made by a hungry twenty-something, it deserved to stand with anything else in the Lumet canon. And perhaps because the film was overshadowed by others on release, writer Kelly Masterson, who made his debut with the project, hasn't yet managed to follow it up, although he's had a number of projects in development, including the Tobey Maguire thriller "Good People," the Barry Levinson drama "Brother Jack" and "Stones," a potential AMC series produced by Scott Free, focusing on the diamond trade.

You may not know who filmmaker Bong Joon-ho is, but clearly, the world of discerning A-list actors do. And perhaps that milieu have rather discerning taste as well. The South Korean auteur, known for thrilling international works like "The Host" and the police procedural "Memories of Murder" (which many of us feel is superior to "Zodiac"), is mounting his first English-language feature, and so far a little guy named Chris Evans is pegged to lead the picture.
