Visibly more than his fellow Canadian collaborators, Jay Baruchel has retained his hometown adoration by selecting gigs set or filmed north of the border—“Cosmopolis”, “Goon”, and “Good Neighbors” to name a few—and now he’s set for a dual repeat with two projects in the works.

Pet Semetary Juan Carlos Fresnadillo
"28 Weeks Later" director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, has been making waves of late for the projects he's almost done, rather than anything he's actually moving forward with. He was in the mix for both "Hot Wheels" and "Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes" but didn't get either gig, and he also walked away from the "Highlander" remake last year (someone else has since been hired). But it looks the world of Stephen King has come calling...

Well, folks, we might as well face it... There is going to be a “Hot Wheels” movie. We’ve already had "Transformers," "Battleship," and there’s the upcoming "Lego" movie, so it really should not come as a surprise to anyone at this point that another toy is headed to the big screen. Legendary Pictures already has a finished script for the project and now they are looking a director that will be brave enough to take on such challenging material.

Remember that “Highlander” remake that literally nobody was crying out for, that may or may not be set to star everyone’s favorite alliterative actor Ryan Rodney Reynolds? Well, it looks like Summit is now going to be looking for a new director to shepherd the project. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (“28 Weeks Later”) had been on board for over a year (after departing another remake, “The Crow”) but has now left the project after battling with Summit over their views on the film.

With Rupert Wyatt bailing on the director's chair just over a week ago, 20th Century Fox now have a vacany to fill for "Dawn Of The Planet The Apes" and it's one they want to move on fast as a release date is on the horizon. So here comes the shortlist and it's both predictable and kind of totally random at the same time.

Oh, dear Ryan Reynolds. For years, people were saying that the actor would be an ideal movie star: handsome, funny, capable of pulling off action roles. And after some false starts, things seemed to be heading his way: he had a massive romantic comedy smash behind him with "The Proposal," and the summer of 2011 would see him headline both superhero flick "Green Lantern" and a promising R-rated comedy, "The Change-Up." Unfortunately, both tanked, and while he co-starred in the modest hit "Safe House" at the start of this year, it's yet to be proven if he's a real, viable A-lister. And we're not sure if the latest project he's taking on is going to change that.

Into the pantheon of horror movie creatures comes Hollowface, the cloaked villain of Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s “Intruders.” In this horror film, two separate families are stalked by the faceless killer who seeks his own identity. The film stars Clive Owen, who is used to fighting all sorts of bad guys, but has never explicitly tackled a ghost.

While many video game fans know the very low success rate of games-to-movies, they remain excited about an adaptation of "Bioshock." The ambitious game and its sequel have been world-building to an epic extent, taking place in an underwater civilization in 1960. Gore Verbinski was set to produce, with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo set to direct, but it appears the helmer may no longer be on the project.

'Intruders' Gets Picked Up By MilleniumPoor Eric Draven. No one wants to bring him back to life. The long gestating reboot of "The Crow" is once again on the skids, as a director has, once again, left the project.

Let's face it, for anyone who isn't a nostalgia-fuelled child of the VHS generation, the original "Highlander" only looks good in comparison to its string of extremely bad sequels and TV spin-offs. As such, it's somewhere near the bottom of the long list of remakes we don't give a shit about; neither a sullied classic threatening to be ruined, nor a property with enough potential to be reenvisioned by an interesting new talent.
