Decisiveness, it seems, hasn’t been high on Kevin Smith’s New Year agenda. First, the third installment of his cult franchise, "Clerks," was going to be a feature film, then a 6-monther on Broadway, then - nope, actually – an online serial (all of this following his announced retirement from directing). Now, just as fans thought he couldn’t toy with them any longer, Smith has undertaken one (last?) change of tack: "Clerks" – the book.

So, something must've happened in the past seven days or so, because when we talked to Kevin Smith last week, he was pretty certain his long-gestating hockey movie "Hit Somebody" was going to be standalone movie after being considered as a two-parter. "It's tough to get one hockey movie made, let alone two. So I've switched back to one movie. I had one-and-a-half scripts that I had to get down to one. I want to get it down to a 150-page script and I know that's longer than the average script length but I figure I give myself a two-and-a-half hour length on paper knowing that I'm really ruthless in editorial and I can get it down to 2, 2:05, because this is a movie that takes place over 30 years," he explained to us. But now it seems he's switching gears.

If you ask Kevin Smith a question, you're going to get an answer, and when we sat down with the filmmaker last week he certainly wasn't at a loss for words. The director was speaking with press to promote his latest venture, the EPIX special "Jay and Silent Bob Go Down Under," a document of the Australian leg of his "Jay and Silent Bob Get Old" live show with his longtime collaborator Jason Mewes. It's another helping of what fans have come to love from Smith, as he relates his experiences with the humor and camaraderie of a fellow fan. And when he spoke with The Playlist, he was just as generous, and if you missed it yesterday, we ran the first part of our chat in which he shared his reasons why he prefers "The Avengers" to "The Dark Knight Rises," and why his hockey epic "Hit Somebody" is being scaled back to one movie instead of two. “The movie was fake. The mission was real,” is a tagline you’ll see printed across a blue-hued photo of Ben Affleck that’s gracing movie theaters and city streets across America this week for "Argo." The film tells the true story set against the backdrop of the Iranian revolution that follows CIA "exfiltration" specialist Tony Mendez, who develops a dangerous plan to free six Americans who have found shelter at the home of the Canadian ambassador – all under the guise of a film crew shooting a B-Level sci-fi picture. While Kevin Smith begins to wind down his directing career, he's combining his experience in the industry, online savvy and massive following and putting that energy into his new SModcast Pictures distribution shingle. Using the template established by "Red State," Smith plans to acquire films and present them in a roadshow/touring format in theaters around the country before they get released to VOD and DVD. And for his first release, he's picked up an indie film that will certain benefit from his support.

Though most critics will fess up to owing some part of their formative years to Kevin Smith’s films and speaking engagements, the filmmake- oh wait, raconteur, has subsequently squandered that goodwill by taking to Twitter, podcasts, and interviews to essentially dismiss professional criticism entirely. If that weren’t enough to enrage those who feel they can see a film for free and still hold a fair opinion on it, Smith has now announced plans to democratize film criticism with his own Hulu show starting this summer.
