As the monthly teasing continues for Lars Von Trier's sex odyssey "Nymphomaniac," there continues to be one surprise after the next when it comes to the film. We've already learned recently that the two-part film may run as long as five hours, and that a TV spinoff is apparently in the works. But could Von Trier's latest be his ticket back onto the Croisette after being deemed persona non grata in 2011?

"... after 268 script pages, 11 weeks of shooting and with 100 hours of material it would have been [a race] to finish the two films in time for [Cannes]," producer and CEO of Zentropa Entertainments Peter Aalbæk Jensen said earlier this year when it surfaced that Lars Von Trier's epic sexytime saga "Nymphomaniac" wouldn't be hitting the Cannes Film Festival. And indeed, with the movie gearing up for a Christmas release in Denmark, it still hasn't surfaced at any festivals, instead opting for a careful marketing plan that has seen a new teaser for the movie arrive each month. But some new tidbits about the movie have emerged and they continue to prove that there is nothing predictable about the film.

Nymphomaniac
If yesterday's latest tease for Lars von Trier's sex drama "Nymphomaniac"—featuring Shia LaBeouf, Stacy Martin and a lot of flesh—didn't raise the temperature, well there's still much more to come. Today comes the latest tease for the movie with brand new footage from chapter making its way online.

With all the hoopla surrounding the impressive TIFF and Venice lineups, we kind of totally forgot the movie very, very high on our must-see list for this year (should it actually hit theaters on our shores by the end of 2013), Lars Von Trier's sex epic "Nymphomaniac." Those words alone — nymphomaniac, Lars, sex, Von, epic, Trier — should be all you need to know to buy a ticket, but the marketing slow roll has been building up buzz and questionable erections.

Charlotte Gainsbourg has gotten in the middle of a man sandwich, Lars Von Trier has been gagged while promising to invent a new genre of film, and the entire cast is doing god knows what in this official image. It's been a weird, bumpy ride, which seems about right for Lars von Trier's sex odyssey "Nymphomaniac" and today the first footage has arrived.

We can't remember the last time a Lars Von Trier movie got this kind of marketing rollout. But then again, there hasn't really been a film like "Nymphomaniac." With the story detailing one woman's sexual history, the promise of hardcore sex for those who want it (there will be softcore cut too) and this cast photo, it looks like Von Trier not only will be pushing people's buttons, he'll be entirely rearranging them. And today comes another couple of morsels from the movie.

Paul Bettany Says Lars Von Trier "Has No Interest In What Actors Think" As He Gears Up Directorial Debut 'Shelter'

While Lars Von Trier seems to have no problem getting actors to line up for his films (just look at the stacked cast of "Nymphomaniac"), the experiences often vary wildly. Bjork swore to never act again after clashing with the director on "Dancer In The Dark," while on the other hand, guys like Willem Dafoe and Udo Kier have been back time and again. But one person who won't be working with enfant terrible any time soon? Paul Bettany.

So we'd heard some interesting rumors of late regarding Lars Von Trier's "Nymphomaniac" -- rumors of heavy visual effects elements, seemingly borne out by the producer saying that the film wouldn't be ready until the very end of the year due to some extensive post-production elements. And now, the truth behind the rumors has been revealed and it lets slip exactly how Von Trier is planning to combine his starry cast with explicit, hardcore sex scenes.

If the Cannes Film Festival is known for one thing, it's the festival's close proximity to topless beaches. But if it's known for two things, it's the emotional, emphatic responses that usually greet the films. These reactions come from audiences that are unafraid to tell the film (and the filmmakers, who are often sitting in the theater, squirming inside their rented tuxedoes and sequined ball gowns) how much they love or (just as often) hate, these movies. Not that these audiences are always right – far from it. Some of the movies that have been audibly shouted down are the ones (in the same festival) that take home the top prizes or garner widespread critical and commercial approval outside of Cannes. The Brooklyn Academy of Music is currently having a Booed at Cannes mini-festival, celebrating some of the best movies with the worst reputations. We wanted to also look at ten movies that got hissed at in Cannes and what happened afterwards.

Oh, Lars! Even though the provocateur won't be at the Cannes Film Festival this year (it's cool, whenever he's ready he'll be welcomed back), the first poster for Lars Von Trier's upcoming "Nymphomaniac" will surely get some amazing attention on the sales/marketing floor on the Croisette.
