Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
So, what can you expect from "Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes"? We'll let director Matt Reeves explain. "We've got apes on horses," he told USA Today. "There is a sense in the beginning of the movie that apes have inherited the Earth. You see the species as it takes dominion over the planet. It's an ape-world. That's the fun of it."

In a season that saw big, expected hits like "Cowboys & Aliens" and "Green Lantern" fumble hard, 20th Century Fox's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" was the surprise summer hit of 2011. Released in early August, many weren't expecting a lot from the film (especially critics) given its motley crew cast and its lead, James Franco, who seemed like he was performing in the wrong movie. It didn't matter. The MVPs of the film were the extraordinarily realistic (and suprisingly emotional) CGI apes, the motion capture work of Andy Serkis as lead ape Caesar, and director Rupert Wyatt, who quickly saw his name shoot up to the most-wanted list. The film took in close to $500 million worldwide and so obviously, a sequel was green lit.

While he spent his time since "Let Me In" amassing a number of potential projects including the sci-fi "8 O'Clock In The Morning," the Frankenstein feature "This Dark Endeavor," and the vampire flick "The Passage" -- not to mention he has his dream project "The Invisible Woman" somewhere brewing -- nothing really got rolling for Matt Reeves. But he's now lined up a big studio tentpole and we'd guess if he knocks it out of the park, many of those other movies might pick up more steam.

With Rupert Wyatt bailing on the director's chair just over a week ago, 20th Century Fox now have a vacany to fill for "Dawn Of The Planet The Apes" and it's one they want to move on fast as a release date is on the horizon. So here comes the shortlist and it's both predictable and kind of totally random at the same time.

Early this week, Brad Bird confirmed, via an interview with Crave, what many had long-assumed: despite "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" being the most successful of the franchise to date, the Pixar veteran wouldn't be returning for another crack at the Tom Cruise-led spy series, saying that "I think that one of the things that’s fun about the series is that they always pull in a different director and try to get a different kind of take on the premise."

Apparently Brad Parker, who has just made his debut on the Orin Pelli-produced post-apocalyptic thriller "The Diary of Lawson Oxford," left quite an impression. Variety reports he'll soon graduate to a much larger-scale action movie for Bad Robot and producers J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves. (Parker, a visual effects vet, directed second unit on Reeves' underrated gem "Let Me In.") The untitled actioner will be released by Paramount Pictures, with a script by Michael Gilio (one of a thousand people who wrote a draft of "Carter Beats the Devil").

Despite much more high-profile names like Christopher Nolan, Michael Bay, Alfonso Cuarón and Rupert Wyatt being wishlisted by Warner Bros., the forthcoming "The Twilight Zone" has found its director, and it's a pretty inspired choice.

Jason Keller is having one hell of a year. Rarely does a screenwriter gain the amount of notoriety as quickly as he has in just a few months. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that the writer will collaborate with director Matt Reeves to write the adaptation of Justin Cronin’s 2009 bestseller “The Passage” for Fox 2000.
