I Origins
When “Another Earth” premiered at Sundance three years ago, the quiet, otherworldly drama made quite a splash with critics and audiences alike. First-time director Mike Cahill’s talents were obvious—even on a low budget—and lead actress (and co-writer) Brit Marling was a breakout star.

I Origins
2011, the year of actress Brit Marling, also introduced the world of cinema to two promising filmmakers: “The Sound Of My Voice” director Zal Batmanglij and “Another Earth” filmmaker Mike Cahill. Marling starred and co-wrote both heady and high concept indie efforts and her rocket soon took off. Fox Searchlight picked up both films and Batmanglij was soon making his intriguing follow-up “The East.” Skeptics were a little less convinced about “Another Earth,” which featured an admittedly excellent concept but was sometimes limited by its budget and presentation in execution. However, those that sensed great promise should be thrilled to see it fulfilled in “I Origins,” Cahill’s powerful follow-up.

I, Origins
Through the lens of science, even the grandest of ideas surrounding our souls, the afterlife, and so much more, are brought down to Earth. Without proof or some kind of academic basis, many of the world's oldest notions about our lives remain stuck in the realm of the unknowable, scientifically speaking. But what if a discovery came along that changed all of that? That's the basis of Mike Cahill's "I Origins."

I Origins
Are you starved for some smart sci-fi this summer? Us too. Sure, "Edge of Tomorrow" had a fair amount of brains, but always coming second to the explosions, and other than "Under the Skin," not much has really scratched the brainy, emotional science fiction itch that things like "Moon" and "Upstream Color" managed to in recent years.

I Origins
The intersection of spirituality, faith and chance... these are tricky ingredients to work with when it comes to spinning a cinematic tale, with the possibility of tilting toward the New Age ever present. But Mike Cahill gets it right with "I Origins" and the first trailer is here.

Masters Of The Universe
Despite a risibly poor first attempt with Dolph Lundgren and a lot of aborted efforts in the late aughts, Sony Pictures hasn’t given up on trying to bring their He-Man movie “Masters of the Universe” back to the big screen. After all, imagine all those franchise possibilities if it hits, since aside from “Spider-Man,” Sony is currently the studio sorely lacking in franchises. A recent attempt almost happened with Jon M. Chu, the director of “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” but he bailed last year. Terry Rossio ("The Lone Ranger" and every "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie) has penned the most recent version of the script and is eager to bring this franchise back to life, and Sony has apparently narrowed down the field for replacement directors.

Since turning heads in 2011’s low-key sci-fi film “Another Earth,” actor/writer Brit Marling has appeared in other similarly small-scale takes on plots that are usually reserved for big studio pictures, her latest being the Zal Batmanglij-helmed thriller “The East.” Though it only hits theaters at the end of May, Marling has already lined up her next project, which reunites her with “Another Earth” helmer Mike Cahill.
