Since the moment we walked out of "District 9," buzzing with the energy and invention of the picture, we, like you, have been keenly awaiting more work from South African director Neill Blomkamp. And after a heap of speculation -- the Blomkamp directing "The Hobbit" rumor must have raised its head a good half-dozen times -- the helmer's follow-up was finally announced at the end of last year as the mysterious sci-fi project "Elysium."

Last month, everything looked good to go on Neill Blomkamp's upcoming, secretive sci-fi pic "Elysium." He assembled a cast with Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and Sharlto Copley said to be on board and Sony dropped a staggering $120 million to get the rights to the film. But it appears everything isn't quite a done deal just yet.

Everybody wants to be Neill Blomkamp's friend these days. Sony just dropped $120 million on the director's next project "Elysium," a mysterious sci-fi flick set 100 years in the future with a cast led by Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and Sharlto Copley, and with "Blade Runner" visual futurist Syd Mead on board for set design. Nice. But that's not all the director is cooking up.

Well, that didn't take long. Just after reports earlier today that director Neill Blomkamp was shopping his secretive sophomore sci-fi epic "Elysium" around town, it's now been revealed that Sony wants to get back into business with the director in a big way.

Things are heating up for Neill Blomkamp's "Elysium," the followup to his blockbuster smash "District 9." Deadline reports that Jodie Foster has signed on, joining the previously announced Matt Damon and Sharlto Copley in what is shaping up to be a very exciting cast.

If we were a movie star, we'd like to think we'd want a career like Matt Damon. Since breaking out with "Good Will Hunting," the actor's gone out of his way to work with consistently interesting directors, from Steven Spielberg and Anthony Minghella early in his career to more recent collaborations with the likes of Paul Greengrass, Clint Eastwood and the Coen Brothers. And today's brought the surprise news that Damon looks to be teaming with one of the most exciting talents to debut in the last few years.
