Clouds Of Sils Maria
Some actors will say that their job is nothing more just playing pretend, but for others, it can be—intentionally or not—a reflection of their real life, with the roles and material sometimes sharing elements with their off-screen persona. And that dynamic seems to be at the heart of Olivier Assayas' "Clouds Of Sils Maria," and a new trailer has dropped for the industry centered drama.

Clouds Of Sils Maria
The last tidbits from Cannes are still rolling in, even as the Croisette itself now looks like the opening scenes of “28 Days Later” (presumably). Last to screen in the Palme d'Or competition, and hence the focus of various final press appearances, was Olivier Assayas' “Clouds of Sils Maria," which has had a mixed but interested reception: it ultimately failed to pick up any prizes, and Playlister Jessica Kiang seems to think that was fair.

Clouds Of Sils Maria
Ever watched a movie and thought “Man, I wish this film had a line of dialogue (or 300) that explained exactly what it wants to be about?” Well, have you ever got a treat in store with “Clouds of Sils Maria”! The new film from Olivier Assayas which screened for press this morning as the last Palme d’Or competitor for Cannes 2014, is a curious type of failure: a film that mistakes needless complexity for depth, and in so doing tells us time and again what it’s about—art vs life, aging, identity, female jealousy, manipulation and insecurity—without ever actually being about those things.

Assayas, Pattinson
It has already been a busy 2014 for Robert Pattinson, and he's not slowing down any time soon. The actor will be leaving the Cannes Film Festival feeling pretty good, receiving good notices both "The Rover" (review here) and "Maps To The Stars" (review here). And not only does he have promising projects in the can and still to come — Werner Herzog's "Queen Of The Desert" and Anton Corbijn's "Life" — on the horizon he has James Gray's "The Lost City Of Z" and a possible project with Harmony Korine. And now you can add a movie with Olivier Assayas to the list.

Clouds of Sils Maria
The conventional wisdom goes that if your movie plays at the end of the film festival, chances are it’s not very good, or certainly not as worthwhile as the pictures that debut during those hot first few days. Certainly this is largely true for Sundance and TIFF, festivals that Hollywood abandons en masse after the first critical weekend, but the Cannes Film Festival is different, and they basically do whatever they want (true of the French too). So if you’re worried about Olivier Assayas’ “Clouds Of Sils Maria” playing near the end of the festival, fear not (plus we’ve heard the scheduling is to accommodate wrangling the talent, with many of the cast are shooting films elsewhere).

Assayas, Pattinson
For his post-"Twilight" career, Robert Pattinson has been quickly racing to establish himself as an actor instead of a heartthrob, using his cachet join a variety of projects with auteurs at the helm. He's got two David Cronenberg movies under his belt, another with David Michod, and more coming from Werner Herzog and Anton Corbijn. And that's not to mention a possible project with Harmony Korine, and if all goes according to plan, he'll kick off 2015 working with James Gray on "The Lost City Of Z." And that's not all.

Sils Maria
With post-production underway presumably with an eye on a Cannes Film Festival premiere, Olivier Assayas' upcoming (and recently retitled) "Clouds Of Sils Maria" is nearing the finish line. And that means getting the project out there for buyers and that's just what's happening at the European Film Market. And as such, a sales poster has emerged for the film, along with an official synopsis.

Things have been a bit quiet for Kristen Stewart after a pretty loud 2012. Of course the "Twilight" saga came to an end, "On The Road" hit the festival circuit, was sorta released in December and then sorta re-released again this past spring and then there was messy situation surrounding "Snow White And The Huntsman" and tabloid-fueled scandal regarding her dalliance with Rupert Sanders. All of this goes to say there are good reasons for her to have kept a low profile. While 2013 has seen her exit a couple projects -- Warner Bros. con-man rom-com "Focus" and "Lay Down In Darkness" (which Scott Cooper asserts she was never really attached to) -- now she's ramping up for two new movies.
