"No" is exactly the kind of film you hope to stumble across -- a film that hadn't been on your radar until buzz from too many quarters too diverse to be ignored made you seek it out, discovering a film that's extraordinarily well-made, superbly acted, funny, human, warm, principled and, yes, as enthrallingly entertaining as it is fiercely moral and intelligent. Set in Chile in 1988, "No" stars Gael Garcia Bernal as Réne, a "creative" at an ad agency. At the start of the film, he's explaining to a group of clients how this spot he's about to show them represents the new, young feeling of Chile, and how it's in tune with the youth of that country and their needs. And then he rolls … a soda commercial, full of shoulderpad-wearing rockers, exultant crowds of youth, and a mime.

The US premiere for Pablo Larrain’s film “No” is finally around the corner and to commemorate its release, seven different clips of the film are now online. The film was picked up by Sony Pictures Classics after attracting a great amount of buzz when it premiered at the Cannes Directors' Fortnight and it looks as if they are wasting no time trying to get the word out about the film. And now that “No” has recently picked up an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film, it should be an even easier sell.

Despite walking away from the Croisette as one of the most talked-about films -- earning the top prize at the Directors' Fortnight -- things have been quiet since for Pablo Larrain's "No." But with the fall festival season around the corner, the film will be making a victory lap, and a Spanish language trailer has arrived to give you a peek at what you can expect.

It has been one helluva week for Pablo Larrain. Easily one of the most buzzed-about movies on the Croisette -- and it wasn't even in the proper festival lineup, playing the Directors' Fortnight instead -- the biggest question being asked among those who saw and fell in love with "No" was how the Cannes selection committee didn't manage to snag this one for themselves. In the end, it doesn't matter -- the movie spoke for itself and has walked away with the top prize, the Art Cinema Award.

One of the best-received films so far over at Cannes is Chilean director Pablo Larrain's "No," starring Gael Garcia Bernal. Its rave reviews have even seen many question why it wasn't chosen for the official competition lineup as opposed to the Directors' Fortnight as it may very well have been a Palme d'Or candidate.

He's still relatively little-known in the U.S, but we've become huge fans of Chilean director Pablo Larrain over the last few years. The director first came on the scene with the excellent "Tony Manero," and followed it up a few years back with the equally good, but very different "Post Mortem." Neither received more than a perfunctory release in the States, but that may be about to change; Larrain's closing out his self-described trilogy looking at his birthplace under the rule of General Augusto Pinochet with "No," which premieres in Un Certain Regard at Cannes tonight, and stars international star Gael Garcia Bernal.

A week from today, the 65th annual Cannes Film Festival will be getting underway on the south coast of France, opening with Wes Anderson's "Moonrise Kingdom," and as ever, it's possibly the biggest date in the cinephile calendar, with a host of hotly-anticipated films set to premiere over the ten days that follow. A jury headed up by Nanni Moretti, and also including Andrea Arnold, Ewan McGregor, Alexander Payne, Diane Kruger and Jean-Paul Gaultier will have to decide which of over twenty films to award the Palme d'Or to, but while the competition will be typically fierce in competition, there's plenty of gems to find in the Directors' Fortnight, Un Certain Regard and Critics' Week sidebars too.
