This year's Cannes sees the return of a major auteur in Pedro Almodóvar's with "The Skin That I Live In." Details have been scarce, other than a creepy synopsis and an array of weird images, the film now has a teaser trailer to complement its upcoming unveiling as well -- and does it do the job or what?

With Cannes just around the corner, Pedro Almodóvar‘s “The Skin I Live In” has taken a competition slot and we can hardly wait to see what the helmer has in store as the film is shaping up to be unlike anything he's done before. The film is a revenge picture based on crime novelist Thierry Jonque‘s 2005 book, “Tarantula,” about a plastic surgeon’s revenge on the man who raped his daughter. But really, that’s just scratching the surface. The film has a loathsome protagonist who, while seeking justice for his daughter, keeps his wife imprisoned and subjects her to humiliating sexual acts with strangers, so those hitting the Croisette expecting a frothy Euro delight will be in for a rude awakening.

Almodovar, Paolo Sorrentino, Takashi Miike, The Dardenne Brothers & Lynne Ramsay; Also In Line-Up; 'Pirates 4,' 'Kung Fu Panda 2' & 'The Beaver' To Play Out Of CompetitionThis morning brought one of the moments on the calendar that every serious film lover awaits with bated breath: the announcement of the line-up for this year's Cannes Film Festival, still the most prestigious on the circuit. Year after year, some of the world's best directors hold off to debut their new films on the Croisette, and virtually every year brings at least one stone-cold classic -- along, of course, with the famous Cannes bombs. With last year's selection generally deemed to be the weakest in a while, has this year's batch (the 64th!) turned things around? We've heard the rumors for months now, and we knew that Woody Allen's latest, "Midnight in Paris," would be opening the festival on May 11th, but little solid fact otherwise. So -- how's it looking?

With Cannes just around the corner, Pedro Almodóvar's "The Skin That I Inhabit" has been highly tipped to take a competition slot and we can hardly wait to see what the helmer has in store as the film looks unlike anything he's done before. The film is a revenge picture based on crime novelist Thierry Jonque‘s 2005 book, “Tarantula,” about a plastic surgeon’s revenge on the man who raped his daughter. But really, that’s just scratching the surface. You can bet this film, which has a loathsome protagonist who, while seeking justice for his daughter, keeps his wife imprisoned and subjects her to humiliating sexual acts with strangers, won't be another Euro delight many have come to expect from Almodóvar.

With Cannes around the corner, it's pretty much a certainty that Pedro Almodóvar will arrive on the Croisette with canisters for his latest, "The Skin That I Inhabit," under his arms. The film was picked up last fall by Sony Pictures Classics, continuing their long-standing relationship with the director but for those of you following the film's development, this is new and disturbing territory for the director and teaser artwork continues to push the idea that is unlike anything we've seen from the helmer before. We're pretty sure the flowery, quasi-medical art you'll see below will look wryly ironic once we've seen the film.
