Do You Have An Idea For 'Prometheus 2'? A "Freaking Out" Fox Probably Wants To Hear It

If there is one (potenital) franchise that continues to be a muddle of confused ideas, it's "Prometheus." We'll spare you the blow-by-blow (again), but generally speaking, Jon Spaihts wrote a script that was a (more) direct prequel to "Alien" (including facehuggers) like had been initially planned, and then Damon Lindelof was brought it and it became the movie you saw last summer (you can read about some of the differences here). But for all the supposed mystery of "Prometheus," Ridley Scott wasted no opportunity to explain away everything and even toss in a loose tie to "Blade Runner" because why the fuck not. So needless to say, the waters have become a bit muddied, and Fox is reportedly none too pleased.

Christopher Nolan may stand as Hans Zimmer’s choice of cinematic collaborator these days, but for a good stretch of more than a decade, Zimmer and Ridley Scott cut a string of iconic projects, starting with 1989’s “Black Rain” through to ventures like “Gladiator” and “Black Hawk Down.” The 1991 classic, “Thelma and Louise,” proved one of their early successes on that timeline, and now a rare interview with both men reflects their approach toward the unique material on show.

That Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" had a troubled production is no secret, with currently four different versions of the movie -- 1982 Theatrical Version, 1982 International Version, 1992 Director's Cut and 2007 Final Cut -- all readily available for those who truly want to dip into the tweaks and changes made along the way. However, uncovered notes from a pre-screening of the film for producers perhaps offer the most entertaining insight into what the filmmaker was up against in making the movie.

With Steven Spielberg leaving "Gods And Kings," the developing Moses movie over at Warner Bros (they're now keen on getting Ang Lee to take over), Fox isn't wasting a minute to try and beat them to the punch. You may have forgotten, but among the many, many, many, many, many, many, many projects Ridley Scott has on his plate is a Moses movie of his own. Apparently, this one is gaining fresh heat thanks to Steve Zaillian's rewrite, and Fox has their eye on a leading man.

The last we heard about Steven Spielberg's potential Moses movie "Gods And Kings" was well over a year ago, when word circulated that he might be eyeing a start date this spring. But obviously, a lot of things have happened since then. The director's "Robopocalypse" started moving to follow "Lincoln" until he delayed it, essentially freeing up his summer, part of which he'll spend as the Cannes Film Festival as the jury president, while also looking over newly tasked director Colin Trevorrow's work on "Jurassic Park IV." And oh yeah, he's also developing Stanley Kubrick's lost "Napolean" project as a TV miniseries on top of the many other big and small screen efforts he has his hands in. And it appears that he won't be parting the Red Sea any more.

Cinephiles woke up on Sunday to some exciting and unexpected news about a project from a filmmaker who continues to inspire debate and discussion more than a decade after this death. Steven Spielberg announced he would be taking Stanley Kubrick’s unmade, long-in-development “Napoleon” and bringing it to television as a miniseries. This is nothing short of monumental news, but as devotees of Kubrick know, it’s just one of a handful of projects that he either decided not to make or never got the chance to.

With news of a big screen "Entourage" movie and that "Annie" remake, it might be easy to get cynical and disheartened about Hollywood. But as a recent movie has taught us, there's always a shot at a silver lining, and today it comes in the form of Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace. The pair have already signed up to star in the Dennis Lehane adaptation "Animal Rescue," and at the time they were also considering the Cold War era flick "Child 44." Well it looks like the allure of working together and the material were too good to resist, because what the hell, they're going to do that movie too.

Fanboys have been doing awfully well out of the cinema of late. With the franchising boom, and the concomitant reclassification of Comic-Con from geek speakeasy to non-ironic cultural staple, they are enjoying an unprecedented day in the sun (or its filament-based equivalent). While major studios have milked the mass-appeal comic for all it is worth (the resurrection of the Spiderman enterprise with the addition of a single superlative was a stroke of marketing genius), yesterday’s announcement that Twentieth Century Fox has landed the film rights to Matt Kindt’s "Mind MGMT" suggests a move deeper into the source material of the comic underworld.

While as a producer, Ridley Scott has been behind countless projects on TV, as a director, he hasn't gone behind the camera for anything on the small screen in over four decades. You would have go back to a 1969 episode of the show "The Troublemakers" to find Scott's name on the episode "If He Hollers, Let Him Go." Well, it looks something has finally lured Scott to dip his toes back into the format where he first tested his skill.
