"Sin City" roared onto screens back in 2005, and ever since then, sequel talk has moved in fits and starts with very little happening. But 2011 saw the most movement in a while, with William Monahan being hired on to finish the script, and Frank Miller teasing that Jessica Alba's character of Nancy Callahan would have a storyline that would thread the two movies together. That start date has remained always shifting or forever elusive, though now, Robert Rodriguez says it might just happen this year.

Oh hey, Richard Kelly, remember him? He's the director who came out of the gate with promise after "Donnie Darko, and then squandered that goodwill with the bellyflop that was "Southland Tales" and then the horror movie no one saw called "The Box." For the past few years he's been trying to get "Corpus Christi" off the ground, and in fact, just over a year ago, he was hoping to pull together the financing to shoot it last summer. Obviously that didn't happen but a couple fellow genre specialists are helping him to get the movie rolling.

"Where the movie will go next? I have a bunch of ideas for it. It's all in the end titles. We have to make them, of course, 'Machete Kills' and 'Machete Kills Again.' Once you put it out there, just like we did with the trailer, you have to make it," Robert Rodriguez said in the summer of 2010 when doing press rounds for "Machete." And last year at Comic-Con, in the batch of titles Rodriguez announced was on his plate, his promised two sequels to "Machete" was among the batch. So you can't say any of this was a surprise.

Consider this one of the few times you'll ever see "Bambi" and "The Silence Of The Lambs" in the same article. The National Film Registry has announced their latest additions to the list of “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant films, and yes, it ranges from wholesome family fare to a movie about a serial killing cannibal.

Robert Rodriguez has been really, really busy. But that’s nothing new for the writer/director/producer, and that seems to be the way he likes it. In addition to the 11 features he’s directed since first turning heads with his low budget classic “El Mariachi” (financed largely by Rodriguez’ willingness to submit himself to medical experimentations), Rodriguez has generally had his hands in just about every other area of filmmaking imaginable: writing, editing, producing, doing DP work, composing music and, we’re betting, handling grip and best boy duties at some point too.

Long before Jon Favreau figured out how to effectively exploit the comic-reading crowd in San Diego, Robert Rodriguez was one of the kings of Comic-Con. The genre filmmaker was responsible for the Mexi-western "Desperado," robbers and vampires genre mashup "From Dusk 'Till Dawn" and most importantly "Sin City," his panel-for-panel adaptation of the Frank Miller comic series. That 2005 film led the way for more slavish and stylized comic adaptations like "300" and "Watchmen" and showed audiences that you could make a comic book film look just like the comic book. But after his 2007 double-feature experiment with Quentin Tarantino "Grindhouse" sunk like a stone at the box office, he's been relatively quiet. Between "Sin City" and "Grindhouse" he made the kids flick "The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D" which seemed to be a natural extension of his "Spy Kids" franchise, followed this up with another kids film "Shorts," about a magical wish-granting rock and he had a co-director credit on "Machete", one of his "Grindhouse" leftovers. The film he has planned for his big comeback is a fourth installment (and partial reboot) of his "Spy Kids" franchise. So, what happened to Robert Rodriguez?

But in Hall H of Comic-Con yesterday, Rodriguez announced a number of projects that should appeal much more to his usual target audience.
