After doing the rounds on VoD for a few weeks, where many of you will have seen it, Sarah Polley's "Take This Waltz" starts to roll out in theaters from tomorrow, and we can't recommend it enough; it's a messy, sometimes frustrating film, but a deeply felt, beautifully made and wonderfully acted one, and we named it last week as one of the best of the year so far. It is not, however, recommended as a date movie, fitting into a long cinematic tradition of painful examinations of broken, decaying, collapsing or dead relationships.

Due in theaters this weekend in Canada and in limited release in the U.S. (and currently available on VOD), by now you hopefully know that Sarah Polley’s sophomore release “Take This Waltz” is one of our favorite films of the year so far. Starring Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, Canadian actor Luke Kirby, and comedienne Sarah Silverman (in a great dramatic performance) the film is an unflinchingly raw look at love, infidelity and the often selfish choices we make in our lives (read our review here).

Did you know that Michael Haneke originally turned his back on Palme d'Or-winning "Amour" because he had seen an unnamed Canadian film that treads the same ground? At the time, we came up with two possibilities for the work being referenced: Denys Arcand's "The Barbarian Invasions" or Sarah Polley's "Away From Her," but with Cannes now over, we're convinced as ever that the film in question is Polley's directorial debut.

It's been a long time coming, but this summer finally sees the theatrical release of Canadian actress-writer-director Sarah Polley's sophomore effort behind the camera, with the romantic drama "Take This Waltz." There's no lack of star power featured in Polley's film, with Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen leading the cast. Now a new poster and a couple of new images have been unveiled to help the film find an audience.

Sarah Polley is no stranger to Canadian literature. As a young actress, she rose to fame playing Sara Stanley in the beloved TV series "Road To Avonlea" based on the writings of Lucy Maud Montgomery, and when Polley set out to make her debut feature film, she turned Alice Munro's short story "The Bear Came Over The Mountain" into the astounding "Away From Her." With another feature film already under her belt in the relationship dramedy "Take This Waltz," which will hit theaters later this year, it looks like Polley has been at the library again.

In Sarah Polley's Toronto-set drama "Take this Waltz," Margo (Michelle Williams) stumbles across Daniel (Luke Kirby) on a business trip, only to find he lives across the street; despite being married to Lou (Seth Rogen), Margo can't stop thinking of Daniel. Or maybe it's because she's married to Lou that she can't stop thinking of Daniel … Following up "Away from Her," Polley's second film is sharply dividing critics and audience in Toronto: Many find it simultaneously exhilarating and depressing; others find it ugly and hateful; a third faction seems to be kicking against the film not for how it says what it says, but, instead, for what it says in the first place.

More photos from the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival of course. This one is the sophomore directorial effort by Canadian actor/director Sarah Polley (the very underrated "Away From Her") and is a relationship drama that stars Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen and lesser-known Canadian actor Luke Kirby.

Considering that her directorial debut, "Away From Her," was extraordinary, earning its star, Julie Christie, an Oscar nomination (and really, she should have won the thing, beaten at the last by Marion Cotillard), we've been eagerly awaiting the sophomore film from Canadian actress Sarah Polley for quite a while now. The story of a young Toronto married couple, played by Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen, who struggle with monogamy and fidelity, the film also stars Sarah Silverman and relative newcomer Luke Kirby, and shot last summer in the Canadian city.
