Tree Of Life Terrence Malick
When Terrence Malick's longtime editor Billy Weber told us last year that the filmmaker's forever developing "Voyage Of Time" was coming in 2014, it seemed to good to be true. A lawsuit cropped up (since settled, apparently) and Malick of course has been busy on two other projects, "Knight Of Cups" and his untitled Austin music scene movie (and supposedly, a director's cut of "The Tree Of Life"). So you won't be too surprised to learn that this project is still a couple of year away.

Isabel Lucas Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen
Over the past few months, some of the actors who stopped by the set of Terrence Malick's "Knight Of Cups" have shared their unique experiences working on the movie. Joel Kinnaman described having to deal with a seventeen-page monologue, Cate Blanchett called it a "quasi-religious" experience, Teresa Palmer talked about Malick's method of "torpedoing" the actors, and Antonio Banderas thinks he's made the final cut, though some of the material he doesn't even remember shooting. And now another actress reveals that she too has probably survived the editing process, but adds that we'll perhaps be waiting much longer to see the finished product.

Remember back in 2011, when Terrence Malick released the literally indescribably powerful film “The Tree of Life” and let it be known that he had no less than three more films on their way? For a man whose entire, near-40 year career had so far yielded only four movies, it was thrilling to learn that it might take just four years to get as many again...

Among the many myths that surround Terrence Malick is that he's a big fan of Ben Stiller's "Zoolander." The story goes that he quotes from the movie and watches it regularly, and the reclusive filmmaker also programmed the movie last spring as part of the Philbrook Museum of Art's "Films on the Lawn" series in Tulsa, Oklahoma last spring. But, does Malick really like that film?

Joel Kinnaman
Just like the start of the past few years, we wonder if in the months ahead we'll see the latest from Terrence Malick, who is currently sitting on two films; an untitled Austin music scene set movie, and "Knight Of Cups." Will they screen at Cannes or perhaps be split up and hit a couple of different festivals? Your guess is as good as ours, though Malick's protege A.J. Edwards—the director behind the very Malick-y "The Better Angels," which the reclusive filmmaker put his name on as producer—seems to think they will indeed arrive sometime in 2014.

The Better Angels
It may look, sound and feel like a Terrence Malick film, but aside from a producer credit, the upcoming "The Better Angels" is actually the work of editor and second unit director-turned-writer/director A.J. Edwards. But certainly, after logging time on "The New World," "The Tree of Life" and "To the Wonder," he's learned a few things about Malick's approach and has put them to use.

The Better Angels
Working closely under the tutelage of Terrence Malick for several years now, editor and second-unit director turned writer/director A.J. Edwards (who has worked on "The New World," "The Tree of Life" and "To the Wonder"), might have been better advised to get out from under the shadow of his mentor for his feature-length debut, “The Better Angels,” which is content to bask adoringly under the silhouette of his teacher. Perhaps intended as loving homage, the film instead borders deeply on self-serious parody, practically utilizing a checklist of every stylistic trope Edwards’ cinematic guru uses – hushed ponderous voiceovers about the nature of life; a gliding camera; intrusive, dancing wide-angle shots; jump cuts; dancing in fields – and one by one employing them all without a trace of ironic self-awareness.

The Better Angels
While "Knight Of Cups" and "Untitled Music Scene Movie That Probably Won't Have Christian Bale In It Anymore" are still out in the wild, waiting to be completed, for those aching for some more Terrence Malick, this one affiliated project that will get your 2014 off to a happy start.

While fans have been excited about this sudden flurry of activity, 2013 has been a bit of a bumpy year for the always under-the-radar Terrence Malick. His latest "To The Wonder" found him getting the rockiest reviews of his career, while he's in the midst of a lawsuit with producers over his brewing documentary "Voyage Of Time." But, that being said, he's got two more movies cooking, "Knight Of Cups" and the still untitled Austin music scene set picture. And now, a minor update has arrived, but the short answer? He's still working on it, of course.

Taking a "break" from shooting Kenneth Branagh's "Cinderella" in London, Cate Blanchett walked on the stage of Alice Tully Hall Wednesday night dripping in Hollywood glamor (immediately after an exclusive invite-only dinner in her honor) and sat down with NYFF programming director Kent Jones as part of the festival's Gala tribute to her career. As the discussion got underway, the stunning and humorously self-effacing Blanchett spoke about her experiences working with highly esteemed directors (Allen, Malick, Scorsese ...), her first paying acting gig (for five Egyptian pounds and free falafel—"I only have one anecdote and that was it") and her children's hopes that someday she will be in a blockbuster ("The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull"?).
