We can’t imagine what you do with your spare time and quite frankly it’s best we never find out, but the good folks over at The Seventh Art are often scouring the internet for hidden video gems. The stuff that they’re able to find is rarely disappointing and this video in particular is quite the find.

Before J.C. Chandor could fully soak in the experience of premiering his sophomore feature “All is Lost” at Cannes this week -- which was met with rapturous praise (read our review here) -- he had already lined up his next project, and it's slated to shoot later this year. His third feature, A Most Violent Year,” is planning to cast a bunch of big names, but none of them have been revealed as of yet. Given the buzz for 'Lost,' however, names may not be so difficult to come by. Plot details are being kept under wraps but considering how well he handled an ensemble cast with his debut film, “Margin Call,” it should be fun to see him working with another top notch cast. Whatever you think of Zach Braff and celebrity Kickstarter campaigns, you have to admit his conversation with Kim Masters late last week was pretty fascinating. Braff paints a pretty dismal picture of the American cinema landscape and part of his self “defense” for going to Kickstater is a just a modicum of control to get a project made. He cites the Hollywood algorhythm that cross-references bankability, Q-factor and other such elements abroad and in foreign markets and then spits out a number that suggests whether a project is worth making or not.

With her latest, excellent directorial effort "Take This Waltz" headed to theaters this summer, writer/director/actress Sarah Polley is going to step back in front of the camera for Wim Wenders' first narrative feature film since 2008's little seen and not particularly well received "Palermo Shooting."

Prior to six or seven months ago, it was arguably easy to dismiss 3D as a passing fad used by money-hungry studios to beef up box office returns without adding anything to the movie-going experience except crossed eyes and migraines. But after Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and even Werner Herzog offered superlative films in three dimensions, the industry proved that great, proven artists could create great works using the format. Even so, it still sounds odd to hear a filmmaker like German auteur Wim Wenders defend technology as he discusses his latest film, the 3D creative dance documentary “Pina.”

While James Cameron can be credited with bringing 3D back to the multiplex in a big way, leave it to guys like Martin Scorsese and Wim Wenders to truly push the boundaries of the format in 2011, proving that it can do more than just make expensive, special effects blockbusters look good. For Scorsese, "Hugo" was arguably far more immersive than anything in "Avatar," with every inch of each frame a wonder to look at. Meanwhile, Wenders used 3D as a dimension to capture the energy and power of dance in a way that has never been done before, and the director is heading back to the format for a brand new project that also promises to offer more than meets than eye.

At the age of 21, he landed in Paris determined to become a painter, but cinema had been in his DNA from an early age. He made super 8 movies as a child and became a local neighborhood projectionist at the age of 6 when he inherited his father’s antique film equipment; so cinema seemed like a natural path. But for years, he turned his back on movies, and it wasn't until he saw an Anthony Mann retrospective -- sidetracked from his painting aspirations in a Paris cinematheque -- that he began to fully understand that cinema had its own authors and "had a language of its own.” He then began a 40-year affair with the medium that continues to this day.

It’s strange to be truly startled and taken aback by the powerful effects of properly utilized 3D not in some Hollywood blockbuster where half of a major Midwestern American city is blown to smithereens by giant transforming robots, but during a quiet, understated, impressionistic documentary/tribute to influential German choreographer and dancer Pina Bausch (directed by Wim Wenders, no less). In fact, this might be the most amazingly you-are-there use of the technology since James Cameron landed us on Pandora. It’s just that, along with the fantastical visas and bounding, leaping, protruding dancers, you wish that the movie were more than just pretty. Sadly, it’s not. And boring is boring, even while wearing silly plastic specs.

We're not the first people who would be lining up to watch modern dance -- it's just not our bag -- but leave it to Wim Wenders to fire up our interest. A stunning trailer for the his dance film "Pina" dropped last year and suddenly the film moved quickly up our "must see" list for this year. Vibrant and dazzling, Wenders dusts off the stodgy and pretentious trappings that dance usually falls into and gives it fresh life. And it will be landing in theaters in a matter of weeks.
