The summer of 2015 is already a crowded one: in addition to "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" and the seventh "Star Wars" movie, there's the as-yet-untitled "Man of Steel" sequel that pits the Man of Tomorrow against the Dark Knight, not to mention "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," a new "Terminator," and "Jurassic Park IV." In short: it's going to be a fucking bloodbath. And there's been a new combatant added to the gladiatorial arena that is the summer of 2015: Disney and Marvel's "Ant-Man," originally slated for a Thanksgiving release, will now shrink down to incredibly miniature size on July 31st, 2015.

In short: it's going to be a fucking bloodbath. And there's been a new combatant added to the gladiatorial arena that is the summer of 2015: Disney and Marvel's "Ant-Man," originally slated for a Thanksgiving release, will now shrink down to incredibly miniature size on July 31st, 2015.

The film, directed by Edgar Wright from a script by Wright and Joe Cornish, and was originally set for a November 6th, 2015 release. The move from Thanksgiving to summer seems like a confident one but a potentially foolhardy one, given that "Ant-Man" is something of an unknown quantity amongst the established brands that will likely be dominating the summer movie landscape. However, this leads us to believe that Marvel and Disney may have someone really, really cool lined up to play Hank Pym, a scientist that can shrink himself down to miniature size (and also communicate with ants). This project is going to need a little star power to give it some oomph. Casting news soon maybe?

It's unclear if Disney and Marvel have plans for another superhero romp to go into "Ant-Man's" now vacated Summer 2015 date; as of now the only high profile offering from Disney is Pixar's "Finding Dory," slated to open that same month. It will be very interesting to see what develops from this story and who, exactly, the studios plan on having wear that very silly helmet.
