When Matteo Garrone burst onto the international scene with the 2008 critically-acclaimed crime drama “Gomorrah,” few would have guessed that his follow-up would revolve around the reality TV show “Big Brother,” but that’s exactly what the Italian director did with “Reality.” And after premiering at the Cannes Film Festival last spring, Oscilloscope Laboratories has released a brand new trailer for the film as it gears up to finally hit theaters.

Eschewing the normal rock-doc mythmaking benchmarks for an intensely focused record of electro-rock outfit LCD Soundsystem’s final Madison Square Garden show, “Shut Up and Play The Hits” was indeed a hit when it first premiered at Sundance, as well as the one-night-only screenings held nationwide for the film’s release last month. However, most fans will be waiting for the Blu-ray/DVD release to catch up on what they missed at those quick screenings -- while fragments of the entire MSG concert were shown theatrically, audiences will be able to experience the whole thing on the home video release of the movie.

Truly heartbreaking news to close off the week, as reports have come in from multiple sources, including TMZ, that Adam Yauch, aka MCA of the Beastie Boys, has passed away at the age of 47. Yauch was a founding member of the seminal hip-hop group, along with Mike Diamond, Adam Horovitz and Michael Schwartz, but found a new lease in life in the last decade by co-founding Oscilloscope Labs, one of the most exciting distributors of independent film in the U.S.

Few thought that when Beastie Boy Adam Yauch set up distribution label Oscilloscope Laboratories to put out his 2008 directorial debut "Gunning For That #1 Spot," it would turn out to be anything other than a vanity side-project. But in fact, the company has evolved over the past four years to become one of the most forward-thinking indie distributors around, having released films like "Dear Zachary," "Wendy And Lucy," "Treeless Mountain," "The Exploding Girl," "Howl," "The Unloved," "We Need To Talk About Kevin," "Bellflower," "The Messenger," "Exit Through The Gift Shop" and "If A Tree Falls," the latter three all turning out to win Oscar nominations for their trouble.
