After proving he could wield the mighty hammer of "Thor" with wit and charm to spare (one of the few lively things in the otherwise kind of stodgy comic movie), Chris Hemsworth is springboarding into other films. He's got "Snow White And The Huntsman" on his dance card, a couple of completed movies waiting to be released ("Red Dawn," "Cabin In The Woods") and of course, he's already on to his next Marvel gig in "The Avengers" but it looks like he's stepping out of the fantasy/remake realm for his next role.

The numbers on “Cars 2” don’t actually matter, except for the stat-hounds regularly following the weekly box office noise (us!). “Cars 2” exists to facilitate Disney’s biggest merchandising cash cow, a multi-billion (annually!) property that needs no further justification. As Pixar seems like a studio that hopes to branch out into more ambitious directions (in theory), they will need something to keep the lights on when, and if, they should fail. Even if the reviews continue to be the worst ever received by a Pixar film, the “Cars” franchise will live on.

George Clooney's 'Ides Of March' Will Open The Venice Film Festival

We are all highly anticipating the fall festival season, and, for most of us, it couldn't get here sooner. The first big news of the season, is that George Clooney's newest directorial effort, "Ides Of March," will open the Venice Film Festival. Clooney will also star as a presidential candidate alongside man of the year Ryan Gosling as his head of media. Philip Seymour Hoffman will take on a supporting role as a campaign manager with Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood rounding it out, making the film's cast a star-studded one to watch.

Perspective is necessary. $53 million is a whole lotta money. $53 million could buy several houses, it could feed many people, it could save lives. $53 million is also a pretty good opening for a somewhat higher-budgeted film, provided advertising isn’t through the roof and there aren’t a massive amount of back-end benefactors involved. But for “Green Lantern,” which cost upwards of $200 million before a massive ad campaign even by superhero standards, this is not a strong opening.

In the era of no-original-ideas Hollywood, even studio suits have to admit that rolling the dice on a "Salt" sequel seems a bit ludicrous. The Angelina Jolie spy film seems impressive when you look at the numbers -- just under $300 million worldwide -- but when you break it down, it looks less enticing. The film brought in $118 million domestic, just a shade over it's $110 million budget. Overseas, the film fared better with a $175 million haul. But is anyone really asking for a sequel? The film is all but a distant memory and that other Angelina Jolie spy movie from last year, "The Tourist," was met with even worse reviews than "Salt" and with both films opening at number two on their respective box office weekends, is banking on another big budget Angelina Jolie movie really the smart play here?

No Mention Of Joel Edgerton Starring In The FilmSince late last year, director Kathryn Bigelow and writer Mark Boal have been hard at work on black ops thriller, the details of which, at the time, were being kept under wraps but was rumored to be about the hunt for Osama Bin Laden. Those rumors turned out be true but when the Al Qaeda leader was suddenly killed a few weeks ago, it was reported that Boal a former investigative reporter, shifted his research and resources and was already rewriting with a section covering the 40 minute firefight that resulted in Bin Laden's death. Even more, Aussie actor Joel Edgerton was said to be a frontrunner for the untitled film -- also referred to as "Kill Bin Laden" -- but once, again word quieted. But not for long.
