All the casting news that's fit to print! We reported last week on Dan Stevens attaching himself to the newest of Adam Sandler's periodic serious, grown-up movies (uh, not to be confused with his “Grown Ups” movies); this one's called "The Cobbler" and follows a cobbler (natch) who steps into his clients' lives as he mends their shoes.

Expect profound statements about walking a mile in another man's shoes ... and expect Dustin Hoffman, who has just been cast, along with Steven Buscemi (a frequent Sandler collaborator). So now we have to start being serious about the thing, especially since Tom McCarthy ("The Visitor," "Win Win") is directing. [The Wrap]

Meanwhile, Lee Pace, soon to be on our screens as the oh-so-utterly-fabulous Thranduil, has just signed on for Working Title's as-yet-untitled Lance Armstrong biopic (spoiler alert: he cheated). No word yet on who Pace is playing: Ben Foster will be playing Armstrong and Chris O'Dowd journalist David Walsh, on whose book the film will be based. Stephen Frears is directing this one which is already in production. [The Wrap]

Asa Butterfield, star of “Hugo” and “Ender's Game,” is on the verge to join Clive Owen and Jacki Weaver in “King of the Kastle,” in which Butterfield would play a teenager who blackmails the cheating Owen. The movie is written by "The Sitter" scribes Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood, and it will also be their directorial debut. [The Wrap]

Callan McAuliffe, who played the young Gatsby in this summer's (already kind of forgotten, or is it just me?) “The Great Gatsby,” has been slated to star in “Skateboarding With Saddam,” a coming-of-age story about an American boy summering in Tel Aviv while Saddam Hussein threatens it with destructions from Iraq. It's all based on the experiences of directors Daniel Lir and Bayou Bennett-Lir. [Variety]

Lastly, some directing news, but about an actor: Matthew Modine, a man who defines that sweet spot between “that guy” and “that star”, is to direct “Walk Like A Man,” an adaptation of a novel about a 15-year-old boy trying to clear his father's name in the last days of the American Civil War. Modine's first directing outing was 1999's somewhat forgotten “If..Dog...Rabbit...” (a.k.a. “One Last Score”). We'll keep you posted on this one. [Variety]
