"Easy A" and "Friends With Benefits" director Will Gluck is now attached to helm the project. As you might recall, he signed a two-year deal with Sony back in the spring of 2011, and considering he hasn't directed anything since that announcement, it's matter of a number of things dovetailing together, we'd reckon. Though once set to be a vehicle for Willow Smith, she's now apparently too old for the part of the nine-year-old lead, and thus will not whip her hair in the movie.
The original movie and Broadway production about an orphan living the hard knock life during the Great Depression will be updated for modern times, though no further plot details have been revealed. Gluck will do a pass on the script, and everything is mobilizing for a shoot this fall for a 2014 release. No word yet if Jay-Z is still doing the score as previous reports suggested, but if the movie doesn't contain his hit single sampling "Hard Knock LIfe," everyone should be fired. [Deadline]
