Tom Cruise is back baby, and the actor hasn't been slowing down for a second, eager to strike with the moment is still hot. But a side-story to his recent string of movies has been the bevy of beauties he's lined up to star with. Paula Patton and Lea Seydoux prowled "Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol"; Olga Kurylenko and Andrea Riseborough feature in "Oblivion" and Rosamund Pike stars in "One Shot." And another talented, and yes attractive, lead is lining up for Cruise's next big screen undertaking.

Emily Blunt is in talks to join "All You Need Is Kill." Set to be directed by Doug Liman, this long brewing project is an adaptation of the Hiroshi Sakurazaka novel that follows a soldier in an alien war who finds himself living his last day in battle over and over again after being caught in a time loop, becoming a better soldier along the way. But this is no plain love interest role for Blunt. In a nice gear change for the actress, she is actually lining up to play a soldier alongside Cruise, which would definitely be new territory for the actress, and one we'd be interested to see her stake out.

But that isn't all. Blunt is also in the running for the female lead in "The Thin Man" with Johnny Depp, and according to Variety, she's a top contender for the part alongside Emma Stone and Kristen Wiig from a shortlist that featured Eva Green, Amy Adams, Carey Mulligan, Rachel Weisz and Isla Fisher. And if "The Five-Year Engagement" kicks off the way it should, Blunt will only be more in demand.

"All You Need Is Kill" is gearing up, and no word exactly on when it will roll, but it should be next for both Liman and Cruise.

All the actresses are great but I agree with some of the comments...against Rachel Weisz?? I think Rachel should get the role...Emma is to young and Emily Blunt, well...I personally don't see her as versatile as Rachel Weisz. Rachel, I think, has proven over the years she could do Comedy (The Brothers Bloom), Action (The Mummy 1 & 2), Thriller (I guess? in Constantine), Drama (Oscar worthy performances!!! The Constant Gardner, The Whistleblower & The Deep Blue Sea)....I think she would be a good opposite for Johnny Depp.

If Emily Blunt, Emma Stone and Kristen Wiig are the top choices for the part of Nora for the Thin Man, then the movie is going to turn out terrible. You need a real actress to go to to toe with Johnny Depp, not a comedian. The only actress on that list who would hold her own with Depp is Rachel Weisz, who has the range and acting skill to keep Depp from making the film into a joke. She can bring substance and real flare to the role and the movie, that same something Myrna Loy brought to the originals. Blunt, Stone and Wiig don't have it in them to do that and if they are the top contenders, then the people who loved the Thin Man movies have a lot to worry about.

Avel, there is a difference between a comedian and a real actress. I have not seen Emily Blunt and Emma Stone take on dramatic work and be believable in it. They're funny but that's it, nothing else below the surface and they are not versatile at all. I agree with most of the comments here, Rachel Weisz would be the best choice for the role and the only actress who could bring credibility to the role.

And comediennes aren't "real" actresses? I happen to find both Emily Blunt and Emma Stone very versatile actresses who can easily pull off both drama and comedy. You definitely seem to lack perspective when you make such ill-informed comments.

Totally agree:) Rachel Weisz would be the best choice.

Emma Stone is 22 years old. She is in the running to play love interest to Johnny Depp? Emily Blunt yes, Stone too young.

Holy shit, Wiig would be perfect as Nora. And I think she'd work well with Depp.

Neither Emma Stone or Emily Blunt are right for the role. And both actreses are lightweights compared to Rachel Weisz.

While I think the idea of a Thin Man remake is horrible and Emily Blunt is a wonderful actress, the only person I can see doing the part justice is Rachel Weisz.

I like Tom Cruise. I really do,... but I think is time to find another actor. I mean,... he is old, and there are so many new actors comming from series. I know that's a risk,.. but let's invest someone new.

  • @sara | April 16, 2012 5:56 PM

that's too bad because in my regular working life I only go to theater for 1 actor and that actor last name is Cruise...

"... the bevy of beauties he's lined up to star with. Paula Patton (hot) and Lea Seydoux (VERY AVERAGE) prowled 'Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol'; Olga Kurylenko (hot) and Andrea Riseborough (BELOW AVERAGE) feature in 'Oblivion' and Rosamund Pike (VERY AVERAGE)stars in 'One Shot.' And another talented, and yes attractive, lead is lining up for Cruise's next big screen undertaking.

Emily Blunt (AVERAGE) is in talks to join 'All You Need Is Kill.' "

A, duly noted. Guess I'm just a little tired of people acting like every starlet in Hollywood is some sort of majestic creature who's wondrous to behold.

  • a | April 16, 2012 5:17 PM

KT, Michael Bay's movies are full of pretty people. Go watch those instead. Or maybe you could just look at pictures of supermodels and pretend they're acting.

  • KT | April 16, 2012 5:09 PM

Yeah, average. Not ugly, just regular. In fact, most of the women Hollywood shoves in our faces only look good when the make is up on and from the proper angles. The problem is most people's standards are average, so...

KT, Emily Blunt is hot. What are you talking about ? Plus, she is very talented & versatile - and she pops off the screen . I will take her over the highly overrated Michelle Williams & Carey Mulligan any day of the week.
