Eric Bana Goes Horror In 'Beware The Night'

It’s been a little over a month since the U.S. release of the modestly successful Ethan Hawke-starring horror film “Sinister,” but helmer Scott Derrickson has already lined up a follow-up, with the ever-solid Eric Bana in talks to lead.

“Beware the Night,” co-written by Derrickson and his “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” partner Paul Boardman, focuses on Bana as “a New York police officer investigating real life demon possessions, exorcisms and werewolves.” While we're not sure what department of the NYPD handles that, it sounds like yet another exorcism/demon possession movie that the studios seem to crank out an annual basis. But perhaps there's some susbtance here as Mark Wahlberg was previously "under consideration," presumably before becoming best buds with Michael Bay.

And again, while we’re not that enthused by the premise -- do we really need another supernatural creature-hunting movie? -- we were pleasantly surprised by “Sinister,” and “The Time Traveler’s Wife” aside, Bana can usually bring enough off-kilter energy to make himself worth watching. No word yet on when it might roll, but presumably "Beware the Night" will come first for Derrickson in advance of his Stephen King adaptatio n "The Breathing Method." [The Wrap]
