When is a top secret cameo role not a top secret cameo role? When it's reported by a major Hollywood trade publication.
THR reveals that Ethan Hawke -- who is not generally known for treading in the waters of the tentpole world -- has come aboard the Len Wiseman-directed "Total Recall" remake. Starring Colin Farrell and Bryan Cranston, the future-set story follows Douglas Quaid (Farrell), a factory worker who begins to think he’s a spy, but doesn’t know whether it’s for Euromerica or New Shanghai, one of the two superpower countries in this world. Bryan Cranston plays Vilos Cohaagen, the leader of Euromerica who is plotting to invade New Shanghai.
No word on what Hawke's cameo will be, but it seems it's important enough that they need a strong actor for the part. As for the female leads, it seems pretty much inevitable that Wiseman's wife, Kate Beckinsale, will land the part of Quaid's wife and Jessica Biel will play Melina. Both are said to be in negotiations for the film.
Filming begins next month in Toronto with an August 3, 2012 release date on the schedule.
