This summer has seen cities demolished, landmarks destroyed and monsters rising out of the ocean, proving that Hollywood knows how to find massive backdrops for their blockbuster spectacles. But filmmakers of late have found an unlikelier location for thrills: the mind. Christopher Nolan dove deep with "Inception," Shane Carruth played in that territory with "Upstream Color" and even Pixar will delve into that area with 2015's "The Inside Out." Now, another film is also using the brain to spur some interesting narrative twists.

Filmmaker Nir Paniry's "Extracted" stars Sasha Roiz, Jenny Mollen, Dominic Bogart and Richard Riehle and tells the story of a scientist who invents a technique to enter people's memories, and is tasked with entering a convicted criminal's mind to see whether he committed murder. Of course, he gets much more than he bargained for. In this exclusive clip, we see our characters preparing just as the extraction is set to take place.

After playing SXSW in 2012, "Extracted" arrives in theaters and on VOD this Friday, July 26th. Watch below.

Sasah Roiz is pretty good in Grimm, but I hated The Cell the first time I saw it, so I won't see this.

Sooo...basically the exact same pitch as THE CELL? Only without Tarsem?

Which was riffing off Dreamscape, which is a much better example.

It's a pretty serious low-tech environment they're doing this in. For some reason that wasn't working for me. Although the cliched crazy bad guy and bad suit guy characters didn't help either.
