It has been quite a while since we've last seen a film from Cannes Palme d'Or winner and celebrated international filmmaker Chen Kaige ("Farewell My Concubine," "The Promise"), but this summer the director's latest will finally land in America.

A story of epic revenge, based on "Orphan Of Zhao" by Ji Junxiang, "Sacrifice" is set during the Yuan Dynasty and focuses on a power hungry general who wipes out his rival along with his entire family, save for one newborn. The infant is protected by the doctor who delivered him and raises him as his own, hoping to mold him into his own instrument of retribution. Sounds like another compelling tale from the helmer, and the film was nominated for three Asian Movie Awards including Best Actor and People's Choice Award for Ge You and Best Supporting Actor for Huang Xiaoming. Both actors appeared in previous Chen films "Farewell My Concubine" and his last effort "Forever Enthralled," respectively.

Serving as a nice foreign film alternative to blockbuster fever at the multiplex, Samuel Goldwyn Films will send "Sacrifice" to theaters in limited release on July 27th. Check out the exclusive poster for the film below.
