While summer 2014 has been typically top heavy with tentpoles, the pickings have been a little more slim for filmgoers in the market for grittier fare. However, if you've been looking for a serial killer potboiler, "The Calling" is right up your street.

Starring Susan Sarandon, Topher Grace, Donald Sutherland and Ellen Burstyn, the Jason Stone ("Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse") directed movie follows a smalltown detective whose investigation of a string of murders suggest a killer answering to a higher power.
