Sin City: A Dame To Kill For
When Robert Rodriguez’s original "Sin City" was released way back in 2005, the VFX-heavy neo-noir felt like something genuinely groundbreaking – a comic book adaptation so faithful to the source material and its striking visuals that the comic's creator Frank Miller received a co-directing credit. Rodriguez and Miller didn't so much translate sequences from Miller's beloved cult series as they practically cut and pasted them out of the graphic novel, positioning them in arresting tableaus Xeroxed straight from the books. Even the dialogue had the same hard-boiled monologues and staccato delivery; the only thing missing was the word bubbles. But as stringently loyal as it was (much of that dialogue being clunky), visually it was outstanding, and like nothing seen before on screen.

Tarantino, hateful eight
So what's the deal with Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight"? After initially scrapping the project after the script leaked, Tarantino did a complete 180, staging a live read and then last month the first poster dropped, promising a roadshow release of the movie in 2015. And now, the movie, which has yet to have a single frame shot (as far as we know), has a teaser trailer coming. Really.

Sin City: A Dame To Kill For
It has been nine years since Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's "Sin City," and "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" looks to be bringing more sex, more violence and above all more of a noir aesthetic common to the first film. The good news is that Rodriguez really hopes that if another sequel is green-lit, it will come along much more quickly.

10 Films To See In August
So, another year, another month of August to end the summer movie season with a whimper, amirite? Perhaps, but we here at The Playlist took the tagline to “American Beauty,” way back in 1999, to heart… look closer. There’s still plenty of McMovies to clog your cinematic arteries, but sometimes, those blockbusters are tasty. And if you step outside of the multiplex, there are plenty more movies that give you a more healthy, balanced cinematic diet.

Sin City: A Dame To Kill For
Some filmmakers you can count on being at Comic-Con every year no matter what, and Robert Rodriguez is one of them. In fact, check out this interesting fact. Warner Bros. and D.C. used two hours of Hall H Comic-Con time to promote three films and probably a handful of other projects. In contrast, Dimension Films is using an entire hour for one film and one film only, “Sin City: A Dame To Kill For” (sorry I refuse to put Frank Miller’s name in the title as that’s just needlessly long, at least Lee Daniels legally had to). If there’s a studio or a filmmaker who loves and lives and dies by his Comic-Con crowd, Rodriguez is certainly close to the top and today, the trailer unspooled in San Diego has landed online.

Sin City: A Dame To Kill For
Moments ago in San Diego, Robert Rodriguez, Frank Miller and the cast of “Sin City: A Dame To Kill For” finished up their Comic-Con panel in Hall H. With an hour dedicated to the film (most panels are apportioned an hour per studio), the filmmakers wasted no time, showing the first scene and announcing intentions for a third film.

Sin City: Dame To Kill For Rosario Dawson Poster Crop
With the "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" controversy over Eva Green and her boobs now ended, the focus is turning back to the movie itself. Last week, we got a brand new trailer, and today comes the first clip, and together, they make the case that the second time around may not be as fun or inviting as the original "Sin City" nine years ago.
