Snowpiercer
A question mark remains stamped on Bong Joon-ho's post-apocalyptic "Snowpiercer." While the film is smashing records in South Korea, and has earned early rave reviews, rumored plans to trim and re-edit the movie have caused concern in many quarters, including from actor Chris Evans himself. The Weinstein Company has yet to set a U.S. release date, and it doesn't look like it will be making its way to any film festivals this fall. So for now, all we can do is look at images and imagine what they might look like with movement.

Already a huge success in his native country, Bong Joon-ho’s post-apocalyptic “Snowpiercer” is still without a stateside released date as its western distributor The Weinstein Company is reportedly looking to — controversially — trim twenty minutes from the film presumably to make it more more palatable to American audiences. Though there hasn’t been any word from Harvey Weinstein himself, the film’s lead actor Chris Evans has weighed in with his thoughts on the proposed changes.

With summer winding down (the last major blockbuster, "Elysium," opened today, with the rest of August rolling out weaker and weaker commercial fare), eyes are now turning to the fall offerings. And while there's plenty of prestige-y fare on the way, there's more than a few films that, while they might have an eye on the trophy cabinet, are paying just as much attention to your wallet.

While we continue to wait for a U.S. release date for Bong Joon-ho's post-apocalyptic "Snowpiercer," it's smashing records at home. It reached 1 million viewers in less than two days in release, breaking a previous record set by the director's "The Host," and becoming the first film to do so in South Korean history. And yet, while the picture seems to doing just fine overseas, Harvey Weinstein reportedly wants to make some changes before he drops it in English speaking territories.

While The Weinstein Company continues to keep Bong Joon-ho's "Snowpiercer" on a still undetermined place on their future slate, the movie is gearing up to open in South Korea. We've already seen a good handful of teasers, pics and previews of the movie, but finally some folks seen the film in its entirety. Yes, the first couple of reviews are in and it looks like the director of "The Host" and "Mother" has hit a homerun.

Are you excited for Bong Joon-ho's "Snowpiercer"? Well, of course you are, but it's a bit of bummer for those of us stateside anticipating his star-studded, post-apocalyptic movie. While it gears up to open on August 1st in South Korea, U.S. distributors The Weinstein Company haven't even given the movie a date yet, and we'd wager at this point, it probably won't arrive in theaters until 2014. Fall festival apperances? Perhaps that will be in the cards, though the Weinsteins may also be too busy pushing their awards season slate, so you never know. Sigh. But at least there is still a lot we can look at until then...

While it’s nearly a month away from release in South Korea, the Bong Joon-Ho-helmed adaptation of “Snowpiercer” is still without a release date in North America despite being picked up by The Weinstein Company last fall. We’ve already seen the first trailer for the film and now we have a bunch of new images that give us a better look at the ambitious post-apocalyptic film.

The World's End
It seems that if you want some vision of the world coming an end, you have more than a few options at the movies this year; on Wednesday "This Is The End" comes to theaters, and numerous sci-fi blockbusters this summer ("Oblivion," "After Earth") have already tackled apocalyptic visions of Earth forever changed and humanity forced to leave. Some extra posters for a couple of the other flavors of big and scary end-times are here, continuing cinema's determination to make 2013 the year it all ended.
