The Daily Mail have the first pictures of Joaquin Phoenix as "Doc" Sportello, the pothead private eye at the center of the story and he looks pretty close to what we'd imagined he would. What these pictures also reveal is that Anderson's longtime partner, a very pregnant Maya Rudolph, has also joined the film in what looks to be a minor role: Petunia Leeway, a nurse at Dr. Buddy Tubeside's vitamin shop. In the novel, Dr. Tubeside is known for injecting his patients with a "B-12" energy shot not unlike the one that showed up a few weeks ago on "Mad Men" and his nurse Petunia is described as "a stunner in a starched cap and micro-length medical
outfit, not so much an actual nurse uniform as a lascivious commentary
It's not surprising to see the cast continuing to fill out as the book has somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 major characters and only about half of those roles have been revealed so far. You can probably expect to see more casting breaking in the upcoming weeks as pictures trickle out of production and in the meantime, check out all the pictures below. Warner Bros. will be releasing "Inherent Vice" sometime in 2014.
