So, just how hot is "Dark Places," the adaptation of Gillian Flynn's best-selling thriller? Well, it has been working AFM hard, selling distribution rights pretty much everywhere and the movie has yet to land a U.S. home, but given the material and cast, it likely won't be long now. And here's a first look, which always helps in getting that conversation.
In this image from the movie, Charlize Theron busts out the trucker cap and leather jacket and is going grimy. She leads an impressive cast that includes Corey Stoll, Tye Sheridan, Chloe Grace Moretz, Nicholas Hoult, Sterling Jerins and Christina Hendricks with Gilles Paquet-Brenner ("Sarah's Key") calling the shots behind the camera. Here's the official synopsis:
The sole survivor of a home invasion where she famously witnessed the death of her mother and sisters, Libby Day (Theron) lives with the knowledge that her testimony as a 7-year-old sentenced her brother to life in prison for the horrific crime. When a group of true-crime enthusiasts find Libby twenty-five years later and convince her to re-examine the events of the night, new memories and old suspects suddenly flood back into her life. As shocking information comes to light, Libby begins to question her own key testimony and sets out to discover the truth of her tragic past.
Between this and David Fincher's "Gone Girl," 2014 is going to be a good year for Flynn fans. Check out the full image of Theron below. [The Film Stage]
