Only God Forgives

In less than two weeks, Ryan Gosling will once again walk mutely on screen in a Nicolas Winding Refn film, and probably beat the shit out of someone. We can't wait, but until then, the countdown to the Cannes Film Festival continues and today brings with it the full soundtrack details for the movie.

Cliff Martinez reteams with Refn again for the movie, but we might want to hold on expecting more of the usual from the composer. Speaking to us in 2011, the director said "For  'Drive', the feminine pop sound of early electronic music from Kraftwerk very quickly came, as in this would be the music, if the film itself was a piece of music. With 'Only God Forgives,' I started to listen to a lot of Thai country and western." Did that have any bearing on the score? Perhaps not. The list of collaborators is leaning toward the dancey with electronic/house dude Gregory Tripi and club thumpin' producer Mac Quayle on board, with actors Vithaya Pansringarm and Ratha Phongam also getting some cuts.

No domestic date from Milan Records for the soundtrack just yet, but it will be released in France on May 22nd. All will be answered soon enough when "Only God Forgives" opens on July 19th. [Film Music Reporter]
