10 Essential Cinematic AntiheroesDigital Spy recently caught up with Corbuld and talked about his work on the film, particularly in regards to the unique Tumbler aka the new Batmobile. The chunkier design that the iconic vehicle of old is greatly informed by Nolan's vision, which has them coming out of the R&D department of Wayne Enterprises. Corbuld shares how we worked not only with the Tumbler -- but also the Batpod and The Bat -- incorporting realistic designs to ensure that any digital work done later would have a solid foundation to work with. Perhaps most intriguing was his pitch for a vehicle that would allow Batman to travel in water.
"I was heavily pushing for a Batboat," he said. "I love working on water and thought it would have been a great Bat-vehicle. Chris felt that it wasn't big enough for the last in his trilogy so he went for [The Bat instead]." And as interesting as a water borne Bat vehicle would have been, it's hard to deny that The Bat was a pretty solid spectacle.
In case you missed it, the past week has brought: 3 unused posters; a behind-the-scenes montage; 45 photos from the Bane vs Batman showdown; info on Tom Hardy's transformation; a football field explosion featurette and a new Catwoman featurette. "The Dark Knight Rises" arrives on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital Download December 3rd in the U.K. and December 4th in the U.S.
