FX Vet Chris Corbould Talks 'Dark Knight' Tumbler & His Pitch For A Batboat

An Oscar nominee for "The Dark Knight" and an Oscar winner for "Inception," and having worked with Christopher Nolan since "Batman Begins," it's safe to say the filmmaker trusts FX veteran Chris Corbuld to help bring his unique worlds to the big screen. As "The Dark Knight Rises" gears up to hit home video soon, we continue to get more peeks behind the scenes of the making of the film.

Digital Spy recently caught up with Corbuld and talked about his work on the film, particularly in regards to the unique Tumbler aka the new Batmobile. The chunkier design that the iconic vehicle of old is greatly informed by Nolan's vision, which has them coming out of the R&D department of Wayne Enterprises. Corbuld shares how we worked not only with the Tumbler -- but also the Batpod and The Bat -- incorporting realistic designs to ensure that any digital work done later would have a solid foundation to work with. Perhaps most intriguing was his pitch for a vehicle that would allow Batman to travel in water.

"I was heavily pushing for a Batboat," he said. "I love working on water and thought it would have been a great Bat-vehicle. Chris felt that it wasn't big enough for the last in his trilogy so he went for [The Bat instead]." And as interesting as a water borne Bat vehicle would have been, it's hard to deny that The Bat was a pretty solid spectacle.
