Moretz Moore Carrie

After bringing some sizzle to the crowds at New York Comic Con over the weekend (read our report here), now everyone else is getting the first taste of "Carrie," and it's pretty much what audiences saw in Manhattan. But that doesn't mean it's no less impressive.

The teaser zeroes in on the iconic climax of Brian De Palma's original, with the the high school burning to the ground. But instead of stopping there, the camera cranes up and takes a gods-eye-view, surveying the entire town, as buildings tumble and burn, and townspeople in voiceover speak aloud their disbelief over what's happening. And then just as the goosebumps are being sufficiently raised, a girl in a bloody prom dress enters the frame.

"It's about anybody who has ever been told no, anybody who ever told you, 'Look, you're not going to amount to anything, you're never going to be who you want to be,'" the film's star Chloe Moretz told MTV about the film which has gained even more currency in the era of bullying awareness. "It's [a movie] for everybody who has ever been told no. She looks back and goes, 'Watch me. I'm going to become the person who I want to become. I'm going to become who I need to be.' "

Promising? You tell us. "Carrie" opens on March 15, 2013. Watch below.

I'm less annoyed by CGIs than by the "camera floating along a street ending with a close up" which makes no sense to me (but I don't see Pierce making such a dumb move in the actual flick). And if I don't think it's blasphemy I don't see Moretz going anywhere near the amazing performance Spacek delivered either. I heard Moore said that it was great cause at least she was about Carrie's age (while Spacek was like 27). What a ridiculous thing to say ! Spacek's performance was out-there and her appearance is far from standard beauty at least (please don't tell me they'll have Moretz go all Ugly Betty !).

"Carrie" on steroids, with more CGI mass destruction is surely worth it, right? Please tell me I'm right. It doesn't matter if film lovers bypass this movie, as i'm sure it will find its audience among the lost in cyber-space generation. I also take issue with the look of pure rage and hatred on Carrie ; not sure if that was the point. But the story has obviously been updated for modern audiences. Also, Chloe Moritz looks too hot. A blasphemy against Sissy Spacek's brilliant performance. Not that it will hurt her career any; Natalie Portman survived Star Wars. Brian De Palma appreciated hot chicks more than anybody, but he wisely left the hotness for the likes of Nancy Allen and Amy Irving. Methinks they just don't make them like they used to.

To clarify, the look of extreme rage and hatred belonged more on the people who perpetrated the prank on Carrie, rather than on she herself. Sissy Spacek played it very sympathetically.

Evil Dead leaked trailer floating around...

  • Archer Slyce | October 16, 2012 3:29 AM

I'll take the Carrie remake over the Evil dead remake anytime personally (granted the Evil dead vid is of poor quality). Although it looks quite bad I'm curious about the multiple narrator thingy (the one really good thing from the book).

    No. Do not approve.

  • Steven | October 15, 2012 11:38 PM

    I agree. HELL NO!

Looks badass to me. Looks like they go beyond the prom destruction at the end and show the town getting demolished.

  • Jeunelle | October 15, 2012 10:29 PMReply

This looks like its going to be very loyal to the book. I, for one, am beyond excited! And Chloe and Julianna are just an extreme plus! Woohoo!!

  • WetWilly | October 15, 2012 10:17 PMReply

It looks like a paycheck for Chloe and Julianne to me.

  • Yod | October 15, 2012 11:54 PM

Julianne wasn't even in that preview. Watch with your eyes open next time. lol
