Updated: Guillermo Del Toro's 'Crimson Peak' Will Spookily Materialize In Theaters April 2015

Guillermo del Toro's next phantasmagorical outing is getting a new moniker. His forthcoming Gothic romance "Crimson Peak," starring the scarily great Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Charlie Hunnam and Tom Hiddleston, has been given the more anonymously spooky title "Haunted Peak" and a tentative release date of April, 2015. Shooting begins in February at Pinewood Toronto Studios and lasts until May. In between now and then, del Toro will direct the pilot for "The Strain," an FX series based on a trilogy of lousy vampire novels the filmmaker co-wrote with "The Town" scribe Chuck Hogan.

Update: Looks like THR got bad intel. Reps for Guillermo del Toro reached out and said the production is just using a different name to book their studio space, a common practice in the industry (see "Return of the Jedi" that famously shot under the title "Blue Harvest.")

The plot for "Crimson Peak" is being closely guarded, but it is said to concern a young author (presumably the Wasikowska role, originally slated for Emma Stone) who discovers that her husband is not who he appears to be. It's supposed to be "very" R-rated and quite sexy, with del Toro having gone on record as saying it's an attempt to transplant the mood and atmosphere of his Spanish-language productions (things like "Pan's Labyrinth" and "The Devil's Backbone") into a larger scale American production. We cannot wait.

"The Strain," on the other hand, concerns an airplane that lands at JFK full of corpses, which leads a CDC agent (Corey Stoll), a professor (John Hurt) and an exterminator (Kevin Durand) to face down an evil threat in post-9/11 New York. It will be interesting, actually, to see if the series actually deals with 9/11 in any way, since the vampire menace partially makes its home in Ground Zero (pre-reconstruction). The pilot is all but assured a series commitment, which is ironic because the books were birthed from a failed pilot del Toro pitched to FX's sister station Fox, a few years ago. Oh Hollywood!

Del Toro's most recent film, "Pacific Rim," was just released on Blu-ray and hasn't left our PS3 in a few weeks. Like "Pacific Rim," "Crimson Peak" is being produced by Legendary Pictures and will presumably be released under their new deal with Universal (Universal released the del Toro-produced, Chastain-starring horror hit "Mama" earlier this year).

"Haunted Peak" will ominously rattle doorknobs in April 2015, smartly getting away from the summer 2015 bloodbath.
