Oh hey, remember how last fall Hailee Steinfeld was seemingly all signed up for "Rosaline"? Yeah, well scratch that. Turns out her deal didn't go through so now the project is starting over, with another bright, rising young actress set to take the lead.

"Mirror Mirror" star Lily Collins has now joined the film, which will offer a new spin on an old classic. Based on Rebecca Serles’ yet-to-be-published novel "When You Were Mine," and adapted by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber ("(500) Days of Summer” and “Pink Panther 2”), this one retells the familiar "Romeo & Juliet" tale but sets it in a contemporary high school, and tells the story through the eyes of Rosaline, the unseen girl Romeo is lovestruck by at the beginning of the play. Collins will play Juliet, with previously announced star Dave Franco as Romeo and Deborah Ann Woll as Rosaline.

Nothing is final just yet, but given that director Michael Sucsy is coming off the big romantic hit "The Vow," Fox 2000 likely wants to get this moving soon. As for Collins, her schedule is wide open as she recently dropped out of "The Evil Dead" remake, and the big tentpole "The Mortal Instruments" she was set to star in has been canceled. [Variety]

Funny piece of trivia: Steinfeld replaced Collins in "Romeo and Juliet" due to scheduling conflicts and now it looks like Collins is replacing Steinfeld in "Rosaline" due to scheduling conflicts.

Great news! Sucsy is two for two at the money with Gey Gardens and "The Vow" which was a commercial hit if not a critical one. I know Collins was in talks for it originally before Steinfeld. Glad she can finally get away from The Mortal Instruments as she had to turn down quite a few roles due to her attachment.
