"Mirror Mirror" star Lily Collins has now joined the film, which will offer a new spin on an old classic. Based on Rebecca Serles’ yet-to-be-published novel "When You Were Mine," and adapted by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber ("(500) Days of Summer” and “Pink Panther 2”), this one retells the familiar "Romeo & Juliet" tale but sets it in a contemporary high school, and tells the story through the eyes of Rosaline, the unseen girl Romeo is lovestruck by at the beginning of the play. Collins will play Juliet, with previously announced star Dave Franco as Romeo and Deborah Ann Woll as Rosaline.
Nothing is final just yet, but given that director Michael Sucsy is coming off the big romantic hit "The Vow," Fox 2000 likely wants to get this moving soon. As for Collins, her schedule is wide open as she recently dropped out of "The Evil Dead" remake, and the big tentpole "The Mortal Instruments" she was set to star in has been canceled. [Variety]
