10 Essential Cinematic AntiheroesWith the two dropouts in the cast, HBO needed a worthwhile replacement for the show to continue strong, and in the casting of Bobby Cannavale as gangster Gyp Rosetti, they might have actually done it it. Among the usual HBO tactics of stern faces behind half-glimpsed muzzle flashes, the teaser finds Cannavale bringing a natural ease and menace into the cast as if he'd always been present, while also promising a massive sea-change to Nucky's (Steve Buscemi) bootlegging operation in the future. Michael Stuhlbarg, Kelly Macdonald, Michael K. Williams, and Michael Shannon all find face time in the teaser as well, but it is Stephen Graham as Al Capone who looks to be an equally uncontrollable presence this season.
Catch all the Prohibition-era action when “Boardwalk Empire” returns to HBO September 16th at 9pm, but before then, check the trailer out below.

I got to the penultimate episode of season one before calling it quits: it wasn't just that Buscemi is hopelessly miscast, but also that Michael Pitt is just terrible. With him gone I might get interested again.
