'Hugo' Writer John Logan To Adapt Broadway Smash 'Jersey Boys' For GK Films

For a man whose first big-screen credit came with the Dina Meyer-starring B-movie "Bats," John Logan isn't doing too shabbily.  Thanks to script work on "Any Given Sunday" and "Gladiator," he's been one of Hollywood's most in-demand writers for a decade, winning a second Oscar nomination for Martin Scorsese's "The Aviator." And, off the back of his Tony-winning play "Red," had a banner year in 2011, with his name stamped on Ralph Fiennes' "Coriolanus," Gore Verbinski's "Rango" and Scorsese's "Hugo," the latter two of which look set to win him further awards plaudits.

Filming on his James Bond script "Skyfall" is already underway, and it looks like Logan's found his next gig with GK Films, where he's become something of a favorite of late. Variety reports that the scribe has been hired by the company to adapt the long-running Broadway smash "Jersey Boys" into a feature film. 

"Jersey Boys" involves Snooki, The Situation and their friends, heavily tanned Italian-Americans, brawling and sleeping their way through New Jersey...wait, sorry, that's "Jersey Shore." "Jersey Boys" is, in fact, the tale of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, documenting the rise and fall of the successful rock 'n' roll group of the 1960s, one of the best-selling bands of all time, through their music, including tracks like "Beggin," "December 1963 (Oh What A Night)," "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "Can't Take My Eyes Off You." It's been running on the Great White Way since 2005, with productions in Las Vegas, London and Australia following since.

It's expected that the film, which GK Films are likely to partner with Columbia Pictures for, will follow the show's template, and Logan, who adapted "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" for Tim Burton, makes sense as a writer for the project. There's no director on board yet, but we're sure one will be along once Logan has a draft or two under his belt.
