It's Official: Tom Cruise Will Be Back For 'Mission: Impossible 5'

While the varying results of "Rock Of Ages," "Jack Reacher" and "Oblivion" may suggest that Tom Cruise isn't always a guaranteed box office draw, at least within the franchise of "Mission: Impossible" he's unstoppable. "Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol" was the highest grossing of the bunch, reaching nearly $700 million worldwide, almost $150 million more than the next most successful effort, "Mission: Impossible II." Naturally, Paramount didn't waste any time in putting a sequel into development, and while that was over a year ago, the project is now beginning to come back to life.

Deadline reports that Cruise has signed on to star and produce "Mission: Impossible 5" (subtitle to be determined), with JJ AbramsBad Robot also throwing their weight in there as well. And that's about it at the moment folks. No word if Jeremy Renner or Paula Patton will return or who will direct. Christopher McQuarrie has long been expected to take the reins for his best bud Cruise, but Paramount have yet to reveal if that will actually be the case, although it's worth bearing in mind that a couple of months ago he did seem uncertain about the job.

Are you ready for another adventure with Ethan Hunt? Can anyone top Brad Bird's work on 'Ghost Protocol'? Who do you want to see direct? Tell us below.
