Dan Gilroy, like his older brother Tony, has spent years working in Hollywood as a screenwriter, contributing to major movies like “Real Steel” and “The Bourne Legacy.” Now it looks as if he will follow in his brother’s footsteps by making the move towards directing.

The film he's attached to, which he also wrote, is “Nightcrawler” and it stars Rene Russo (who is also his wife) and Jake Gyllenhaal. The project is very much a family affair and he'll be working alongside his brother Tony, who'll be producing, and also John Gilroy (“The Bourne Legacy”, “Warrior,”) who'll be working as editor on the project.

“Nightcrawler” tells the story of a driven young man (Gyllenhaal) who discovers the nocturnal world of  freelance crime journalism in Los Angeles. Filming is set to begin in late October with Robert Elswit chalked up to be behind the lens. The movie will be up for grabs at the Cannes Film Market next month. At any rate, if Gilroy has any difficulties then he certainly has a fair amount of talent to back him up. We’ll see how it all pans out when it hopefully comes out next year. [THR/Variety]

Besides starring in "Nightcrawler", Jake Gyllenhaal will be one of the producers, according to Variety/THR. It seems like a gritty, noir-ish film, good addition to his latest choices, "End of Watch", "An Enemy", "Prisoners".

Check out @cigsandredvines on twitter. It's run by a PTA fan site. They were the first ones to receive the teaser for The Master last summer in an email from the man himself. Very reputable source.

Can you point me to your source re: Vice reads? I'm getting antsy that this isn't happening and it would break my heart.

Last I checked Inherent Vice was set to begin production late April/early May. I doubt Elswit would need 6 months to film it and there have been very recent casting calls for Vice reads. I bet they get rolling soon and we get some more news on production next week or the week after.
