Jennifer Ehle Joins 'RoboCop'; 'The Counselor' Adds 'Game Of Thrones' Actress Natalie Dormer; Elisabeth Shue Needs 'Parental Guidance' & More

Director Jose Padilha has been spending the past few months filling out his cast for his upcoming "RoboCop" remake, which, if you're disgusted by the idea of such a thing, we're sorry to say is still happening. If you're not bothered at the idea of yet another remake of a Paul Verhoeven sci-fi classic (what's next? A "Starship Troopers" remake? Oh, wait, that's happening too), then you'll probably be thrilled to learn that the role of Liz Kline will be filled by Jennifer Ehle. Who is Liz Kline? Actually, we don't know.

Ehle joins a cast that includes the recently added Jackie Earle Haley, as well as Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish, Samuel L. Jackson and Hugh Laurie with Joel Kinnaman (AMC's "The Killing") in the title role. The actress is on a bit of an action roll, as Ehle will also appear later this year in Kathryn Bigelow's upcoming Osama Bin Laden movie, "Zero Dark Thirty." "RoboCop" is scheduled to open on August 9, 2013. [Deadline]

Fun bit of trivia: Ehle played Catelyn Stark in the "Game of Thrones" pilot, and would have eventually worked with Natalie Dormer, who plays Margaery Tyrell on the show, had she decided to stick with the series. Speaking of Dormer, the British actress has landed a supporting role in Ridley Scott's "The Counselor," which stars Michael Fassbender as a lawyer who decides to dabble in the cocaine trade, which, as you might guess, doesn't go well. Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, John Leguizamo, Rosie Perez, Cameron Diaz, John Leguizamo and Brad Pitt co-star in the movie, which is an original screenplay written by author Cormac McCarthy ("No Country For Old Men"). [THR]

Since starting her family in the late '90s, Elisabeth Shue has been good for about one movie per year, but the actress is clearly ready for an increased workload now that she's a series regular on "CSI." Shue is also ready to jump into more film projects, negotiating for a role in the coming-of-age, rock 'n' roll comedy "Parental Guidance Suggested." Based on music producer Ric Browde's 2000 novel "While I’m Dead … Feed The Dog," the movie stars Selena Gomez and Nat Wolff as two teens who embark on a rock 'n' roll-themed journey. Shue will play one of the teen's mothers. Austin Stowell, Cary Elwes and Dylan McDermott will co-star for writer-director Tim Garrick. [Deadline]

The cast continues to grow for "Dark Skies," the latest sci-fi thriller from writer-director Scott Stewart ("Priest," "Legion"). Keri Russell was recently added to the film, which follows an alien disguised as a human and a young boy tagged for abduction. Russell and Josh Hamilton will play the parents of Dakota Goyo ("Real Steel"), the film's latest addition. While we can't say that we've been thrilled with Stewart's previous efforts, "Dark Skies" will be made with "Insidious" producer Jason Blum on a more micro-budget scale, and we're hoping those factors will bring out the best in Stewart. Dimension will release the film, which starts production this summer. [Variety]
