Jesse Plemons, Battleship

If J.J. Abrams, Lawrence Kasdan and Kathleen Kennedy are looking to shake things up and have their “Star Wars” movie 'Episode VII' stand out, they might just have find the right maneuver, and it's one in very atypical casting.

According to The Wrap, Jesse Plemons, “The Breaking Bad” star (Todd, the pleasant, but kind of sociopathic criminal) who also had a small, but key role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “The Master,” is being eyed for a lead role in the Abrams-directed picture. While the 25-year-old actor hasn’t secured the part yet, the actor is definitely in contention and is coming back to audition for the “Super 8” and “Star Trek” franchise filmmaker again (his first taped audition reportedly impressed). Plemons also had a role in Peter Berg's "Battleship" and the "Friday Night Lights" TV show.

No details on what that role might be, but as the Wrap speculates, Plemons does look vaguely like a young Luke Skywalker and there’s been many rumors that have said the new “Star Wars” films will pick up with the children of Luke, Han and Leia. More details when we have them. "Star Wars: Episode VII" is co-written by Abrams and Kasdan and is due in theaters December 18, 2015.

Most of the fault for the bad acting lies on the shoulders of George Lucas. He can direct action sequences and droids just fine, but he has a bit of a deficiency when it comes to human beings. As much as I love Jesse's work, he's just not charismatic enough to do an over the top action movie. 65 episodes of playing a pimply-faced smart ass on Friday night Lights is not enough.

His character should be called Ricky Hitler, bitch.

He was great in The Master. Luke never had a son, so said George Lucas in an interview once. But... Leia's son, maybe?

This would only excite me if Matt Damon played his dad. "I am your father!"

    Landry Calrissian?

This guy is not leading material. didn't they mess up the last 3 movies by casting a wooden/non lead actor?

I meant that they couldn't have saved those movies if they cast Ryan Gosling or Leonardo DiCaprio as Anakin. Every actor looked bad in the prequel trilogy.

Mark Hamill isn't exactly a master thespian either and he was unknown before Star Wars, he didn't ruin the original trilogy.

Yer, meant godawful Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen. Their acting was atrocious as always.

Samuel L Jackson and Liam Neeson were wooden in that franchise, it's not the actors fault.

Yeah, 65 episodes of Friday Night Lights might warrant a mention over his bit film roles.

    You're a Jedi, Landry.
