Joel Kinnaman Joins Tom Hardy & Noomi Rapace In 'Child 44'

With "The Killing" back on AMC, "RoboCop" around the corner, along with a role in another Liam Neeson face puncher, "All Nighter," Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman is on his way to becoming a household name. And this next gig will certainly help that along.

The actor is coming aboard the Cold War thriller "Child 44," where he'll feature alongside Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace. And that's a cast we can get down with. Produced by Ridley Scott, set to be directed by "Safe House" helmer Daniel Espinosa, the tale follows a disgraced MGB agent (Hardy) in the Stalin-era Soviet Union investigating a prolific child murderer who may have connections going to the very top of the party leadership. Rapace will play the wife of the agent with secrets of her own, with Kinnaman as Hardy's "nemesis."

The movie is based on the book by Tom Rob Smith and has been adapted by the excellent Richard Price ("The Wire," "Clockers"), and with this cast, it's pretty easy to see why we're excited. Production is being eyed for this summer, but first, Hardy and Rapace will make "Animal Rescue" this spring.

Noomi Repace's co-star in Prometheus looks exactly like Tom Hardy. I wonder if she will feel quite... strange

A great book with a really dumb twist, if Kinnaman is the bad guy it's a shame, but I can't wait to watch Tom & Noomi beat a guy to death with a floorboard from a train,
