Radiohead and Jonny Greenwood fans rejoice, the guitar slinger's latest film composition won't cost you a dinner and a movie for two people, so save that money you were going to spend on an import. Nonesuch Records have announced that Greenwood's score for Anh Hung Tran‘s “Norwegian Wood” will get a stateside release; it was released in Japan last year.

The film, starring Rinko Kikuchi and Kenichi Matsuyama and based on the book by Haruki Murakami, is a coming-of-age story told in flashback, spurred by the sitar strings of The Beatles’ title song. It played at Venice and TIFF to lukewarm reviews, and hits theaters in Japan next month. Like Greenwood’s score for Paul Thomas Anderson‘s “There Will Be Blood,” this piece was also based on a previously existing work, a composition called “Dogwood” which the musician wrote for the BBC Concert Orchestra and debuted last year at Maida Vale Studios. The soundtrack is rounded out by three songs by the excellent krautrockers Can.

The disc will land in stores on March 7th, while the film will hit UK cinemas on March 11th. No word yet of a U.S. theatrical release. Full tracklisting after the jump as well as a listen to "Ate mo Naku Aruki Mawatta" courtesy of At Ease.

The title of the previously existing work is "Doghouse", not "Dogwood" as stated here.

Tran Anh Hung (now, that's correct)

The director's name is Tran Ahn Hung. A fabulous vietnamese movie author. The track of Greenwood is superb.

I loved "There Will Be Blood".

Meh. This track barely sets a mood, sounds noodly and kind of bad. Hope the rest is better.
