10 Essential Cinematic AntiheroesThe filmmaker hit Twitter today and revealed that "HIT SOMEBODY is now gonna be a mini-series" with "6 hour-long episodes." Frankly, television seems like the perfect place for his story that spans a few decades and boasts a period setting, and we'd wager it's probably easier to get backing from an adventurous cable than a studio, where tentpoles still reign. So with that project now off the table as his final feature film, what will be Smith's last cinematic statement? Perhaps "Clerks 3"?
"So with the HIT SOMEBODY shift, the minute Jeff Anderson signs on, my last cinematic effort as a writer/director will be CLERKS III. #TaDA" he tweeted. He's been teasing this film for years, and never really seemed to be seriously working on it.
"I’ve always opened said musings with the disclaimer 'If I ever wanna make a flick about being in my 40′s, I’ll think of Dante & Randal first.' There are no concrete plans for a CLERKS III," he said in January 2011, and unless the open book filmmaker has somehow managed to keep this entirely under wraps, we'd wager it's still just an idea percolating around in his brain.
So there's your latest on what's coming from the View Askew universe. Do you want to see a "Clerks 3"? Tell us below.

I'm much more interested in Hit Somebody than Clerks 3 to be honest. It sounds like it's shaping to becoming his magnum opus. And the fact the original source is a Warren Zevon song is the icing on top. Loved being at the 99th j&sbgo podcast.

He'll Yes to Clerks 3. Honestly I think Clerks 2 ending was symbolic to how their life as it is suppose to be just started. And there is plenty of room to write about how the life they lead now can easily come between 2 friends.

As for Clerks III, the 2nd one ended PERFECTLY and wrapped up the characters in a very neat package with a pretty bow on top. I really don't see how a 3rd one can be done without ruining 2s perfect ending and taking away from it. We will see.

I don't think Becks changed. She was always in love with Dante, was just too scared to admit it. Over the course of the day she manned up. Don't see that as an "awful decision" at all. The dance sequence is hysterical and I thought it was very "Kevin Smith".

I just re-watched Clerks II and despite some really awful filmmaking/writing decisions (the dance sequence, the fact that "Bex" totally changed who she in the course of a day), the film is still hilarious and fun to watch. Dante and Randall are such a winning combination that it's hard not to want another Clerks.

Hell yes I'd like to see a Clerks III. I think Smith gets a lot of flack as a writer/director, but his films have real heart. Cop Out aside, I've enjoyed all of his work so far.
