Yes, it's yet another offer for "Akira," although this one brings with it even more ammunition for the already disgruntled fans of the original manga and anime.

Perhaps in a bid to court a wider demographic, Twitch reports that "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart has been offered the role of Kei, a medium and love interest for Kaneda that will be played by Garrett Hedlund, currently the only official cast member of the movie. If she does sign it will be a reteaming of sorts, as the pair both feature in the upcoming Walter Salles adaptation of Jack Kerouac's "On The Road." But as always, this is just an offer and this movie has had plenty so far.

Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter have also received offers to play the The Colonel and Lady Miyako respectively, while Keira Knightley had also been contacted for a possible role, which was unknown at the time, though we assume it's the same one being proffered to Stewart. Meanwhile, Ezra Miller and Alden Ehrenreich are among those testing for the co-star role of Tetsuo in the film.

So who knows how this will wind up shaping out. The Steve Kloves-penned adaptation will be helmed by "Oprhan" and "Unknown" director Jaume Collet-Serra and is gearing up shoot in early 2012.

This would be a terrible career move for her.

Every SINGLE thing we hear about this movie is just completely pathetic. They just need to give it up already.

I like Stewart a lot, people seem to have forgotten that she is a fine actress because of Twilight which does no actor and favors script wise. I have no problem with her, and it is clever casting if true. She will certainly bring a load more attention to the film, i doubt many general audiences have heard of this. Oldman and Bonham Cater will bring gravitas and Hedlund i guess will bring his fans.

Like her or loathe her, nobody generates attention like Kristen Stewart.

I wasn't particularly excited about this movie to begin with (leave it alone WB!!!), but if this girl is in it any hope I did have will be evaporated. Bonham Carter and Oldman? Yes. Hedlund? No, he was awful in TRON.

I think Stewart will be awesome as Kei. For her, it's all about embodying the character. If you checkout the characters she has played, her performance is as realistic as they were written. Joan Jett in The Runaways, Marylou in OTR, Tracy in Into the Wild, Em in Adventure land, Georgia in The Cake Eaters, Martine in The Yellow Handkerchief, Jess in The Messengers, and even as human and vampire Bella in the Twilight Saga and Snow White I'm SWATH.

You said everything. I dont think Heldlund did a good job in Tron, i think Olivia was better than him. and Kristen, seriously?? only because she is making money in Twilight. but the end, i dont believe she is a good actress.
