Listen: Marcus Mumford & Oscar Isaac's Beautiful "Fare Thee Well (Dink's Song)" From 'Inside Llewyn Davis'

You might not be shocked to learn that crusty, crotchety, senior members of The Playlist staff aren't exactly big on Mumford & Sons and their hooray-for-everything foot-stamping singalongs. But Marcus Mumford certainly knows his roots, and he's letting them shine on the Coens' forthcoming "Inside Llewyn Davis." Corralled to help write some of the original songs on the folk-music-world-set dramedy, one of the highlights is "Fare Thee Well (Dink's Song)," a take on the folk classic. It's been powering the most recent trailers, and now you can hear it in full.

You might not be shocked to learn that crusty, crotchety, senior members of The Playlist staff aren't exactly big on Mumford & Sons and their hooray-for-everything foot-stamping singalongs. But Marcus Mumford certainly knows his roots, and he's letting them shine on the Coens' forthcoming "Inside Llewyn Davis." It's been powering the most recent trailers, and now you can hear it in full.

Co-performed by Oscar Isaac, the tune is a rather beautiful number that really encapsulates the week-long journey of Llewyn in the film. A folk music singer on the fringes of success, the film chronicles his struggle to make it, all while balancing a tumultuous personal life and the matter of a cat that he has to return to the Gorfeins, a couple of Upper West Side benefactors. Funny, heartfelt and one of the Coens' best, it charmed us when we saw it back at Cannes (our review) and we're sure it's poised for big things when it opens at the end of the year.

Listen to the song below, which can be found on the soundtrack that drops on November 12th. The film opens on December 20th, and we've included the most recent trailer featuring the song as well.

Update: Showtime announced today that they will air “Another Day, Another Time: Celebrating the Music of ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’” on Friday, December 13th at 9 PM ET/PT. The music will be from a one-time special concert that takes places this weekend at The Town Hall in New York City on Sunday, September 29. Artists performing at the concert include The Avett Brothers, Joan Baez, Rhiannon Giddens of Carolina Chocolate Drops, Lake Street Dive, Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, The Milk Carton Kids, Keb’ Mo’, Marcus Mumford, Bob Neuwirth, Conor Oberst, Punch Brothers, Dave Rawlings Machine, The Secret Sisters, Patti Smith, Gillian Welch, Willie Watson, and Jack White. Stars of the film will also perform at the event, including Oscar Isaac (who plays the title role in the film), Carey Mulligan, Adam Driver, Stark Sands and John Goodman. [Baebel Music]
