Cable networks are free to drop in all the sex and violence that their national broadcast competition can't, which certainly makes it a challenge when competing for viewers. But even so, NBC is hoping they can push the envelope by bringing Hannibal Lecter to the small screen. And they've got a helluva lead in Mads Mikkelsen.

After a batch of preview pics landed last fall, another tease has been dropped with Mikkelsen looking like he's totally owning the role of everyone's favorite cannibal. The twist of the series is that it takes place before Hannibal becomes a convicted criminal, tracking his time at the FBI with Hugh Dancy as his partner, Laurence Fishburne as his boss, and Scott Thompson also part of the team. David Slade helmed the pilot, and now it's just a question of when this is going to air.

And there's still no answer to that one, but the thirteen-episode first season is expected to bow sometime this year. [Cinema Teaser]
