10 Essential Cinematic Antiheroes
Geoffrey Fletcher's (screenwriter of "Precious") directorial debut "Violet & Daisy" has just received a boost of British class, as Marianne Jean-Baptiste has joined the cast of the film. Who? She's probably best known for her outstanding and Academy Award nominated performance in Mike Leigh's "Secrets & Lies," but unfortunately hasn't found anything since to match the profile that film gave her. But hopefully, her appearance here will help turn that around (though she is a longstanding fixture on the TV series "Without A Trace.")
Baptiste joins a pretty solid cast for the film that includes Saoirse Ronan, Alexis Bledel, James Gandolfini and Danny Trejo in a story about a pair of teenage assassins (Ronan, Bledel) who are lured into what is supposed to be just another quick and easy job, only to find complications as the man they're supposed to kill is not what they expected. Baptiste will play Number 1, who Fletcher describes as "a worldly shape-shifting assassin." Sounds pretty cool.
The film is currently shooting in New York City and will most likely hit theaters sometime next year. And don't get it confused with the other teenage-assassin flick also starring Ronan, "Hanna," which is also scheduled to hit next year. Looks like Ronan is going to be kicking some ass all through 2011.
